I know there was a few discontinuum guys there on sunday, but tags were not discussed. Are tags still in play if no one collects them before the rounds? Can it be worked out once scores are posted? Because I've been looking forward to dumping my #55.

I think you are going to be looking a little  while longer.

Tags are ALWAYS in play!   ;D

Last year I collected and ran the tags at most of the tournies I attended. It's a lot of work, especially at the end when people tend to run, drive fast, and generally dissapear after a round &/or finish they weren't happy with, with no regard for their tag.

If someone doesn't step up  & collect them, or at least mention tags to other members at the beginning, usually it doesn't happen. At State last year there were only about 5-7 of us there on the lower day, so we just met up at the end and traded around.

if there was nothing organized at the event and no on card challenges occured (which are supposed to be obligatory at tournaments, maybe none of our club members got on the same cards) then the cracked plastic was a missed opportunity for tag challenges.

good luck next time!

This is a well run tournament but I hated the course its played on.  90% of the holes are based on a righty who can throw a 260 foot hyzer.  Both of the long holes are ridiculas on the course, they are just out of reach for me yet an easy reach in two shots if you can throw 250 feet twice.  First round I was not wearing warm enough layers and was freezing which did not help.  I think they should of made one good 18 hole course instead of cramming 24 crappy holes.  I dont think I will be back next year.

Even more so for lefty big-arms, eh?

I don't think Coldbrook is a good course, but I think it has its merits.  I am not good at technical courses (as evidenced by my score), but I have respect for the course, to a point.  You have to be lucky to shoot hot there, but you have to throw controlled shots.  Being a lefty, I disagree it is all righty shots.  I find that a lot of wooded holes don't favor either handed player.  If I may, let me look at each hole as being a "lefty" or "righty" hole.
1 - Righty
2 - Righty
3 - Neutral, leans towards righty
4 - Neutral, very close to being lefty
5 - Lefty
6 - Lefty
7 - Righty
8 - Neutral, leans slighty righty
9 - Neutral, leans towards lefty
10 - Righty
11 - Neutral, close to being righty
12 - Neutral
13 - Righty
14 - Lefty
15 - Lefty
16 - Righty
17 - Neutral, close to being lefty
18 - Righty, but just a hard hole for anyone
19 - Lefty
20 - Neutral
21 - Righty
22 - Righty
23 - Lefty
24 - Neutralish, leans towards righty

So by count that is:
Righty - 9
Lefty - 6
Neutral - 9

Seems pretty balanced to me, but I would say the course is 70% skill and 30% luck, which is way too high for a course, even a technical one.  Of course, purely my opinion and a topic for debate

On the righty/lefty balance, I'd have to agree with Neal.  Most of the "lefty" holes are reachable with righty anhyzers and righty turn overs.  There are plenty of righty holes out there with no real lefty route.

I'd also agree that they crammed 24 holes in on a piece of land with room for a good 18 hole course.  The course conflicts on 1 and 2, 2 and 4, 7 and 18, and down in the bowl are just insane.  Wear a helmet!

If you think this is a good course, that's just how utterly bad Illinois courses are!  This is not one of Michigan's top ten.  There are four or five better courses in K'zoo/BattleCreek alone.

But, on Sunday all four divisions were won by lefties and righty forehand throwers.  So, good players overcome.

They are actually turning Coldbrook into an 18 hole course as part of the preparation for worlds. It was blatantly obvious how necessary this was based on the backups at 4 and 18. That was my only complaint of the day really.

Good call on the helmet. I actually saw someone get hit by a stray disc. It hit a tree way up top and came straight down onto his head while he was at the next tee. It made a sound louder than hitting a tree.

Anyone planning on going to this one this year?  It's feb 9th & 10th.  I plan on playing on Sun cause I'll be playing Rockford's Ice Bowl with a buddy on Sat.  I know they've had some lake effect lately but if it's as warm as it is here, hopefully most of that will melt by then.

I will be going this year, see how ill do.  I have never played the course before.  From the sounds of the course i will have a hard time on this course, dont think my over hand shots will help me much.  Hopefully i can place my shots well enough to do good.

Ouch Sunday is going to be 11* with 19 mph wind.  That is well below zero have fun with that. IM goin sat. and its gonna be 30 still cold but that as bad. Have fun

Bruce Brakel

Kelsey and I were thinking about going until I saw the weather forecast: 3-6 inches of new snow on Friday night and then 40 mph winds on Saturday.  Good luck with that!

I was wondering why Larry has such small fields for his lower divisions and then I noticed the Rec entry fee is $40.  $40?!?!  $50 makes for a nice entry-level entry fee for a non-member.  I bet you get a lot of non-members with that entry fee.

omg i know that is an outrage.  They are lucky that im addicted to disc golf.  I looked at the entry fee and almost crapped my pants.  I had to drop 40bucks to get in, 3 bucks for doing it online, 5 bucks for ace, 5 bucks for ctp,  all that just to play int.  That is 53$ and i havent even left my house.  The pdga has to do something about am payouts, cause players are not going to be able to play many tourneys with the entry fees rising and getting discs in return.. I think an AM player should be able to take a Percent of there payout in cash..  We gotta eat, LOL

IM not gonna complain about the weather.  I already did enough complaining above, I will survive..

This discussion could easily go into a different thread instead of talking about the tournament, but I do want to respond.  Entry fee? terrible - the player pack with that kind of entry fee should be something like $25 worth of stuff and then some really nice payouts.  Will that happen? doubtful unfortunately.  However, in response to taking a percentage cash - I'd recommend one of two things: go Pro, or stay home.  The TD will learn quickly that if no one shows up with the prices at $40 and a ton of people show up when it's $25-$30 or something, then they should change things up.  Your other option would be to take the plastic that you win and sell it to someone else that does want it.

I won't defend a $40 entry fee for the intermediate division.  I don't agree with that unless there were some huge perks for the money.

With an honest TD, taking a percentage back as cash would just be a really rough day on the TD and on the vendor (should they be two different entities).  As a vendor I wouldn't want to give back some of the guaranteed cash that I was expecting to receive as part of making the time to come out and sell.

They are steep entry fees, but Larry has the best payouts I've ever seen. By no way, shape or form is this a knock on anyone here running tournaments. For both Cracked Plastic and Lumberjack last year we got a Star and an FLX disc as a players pack and even the pros got that. Payouts were deep and far, far above the PDGA standardized crappy payouts.

Larry does have good payouts and good player packs.  You'll get your money's worth.

He won't learn anything from high entry fees and low attendance.  Larry's learning curve is kind of shaped like central Illinois, but without the corn.
