Hey guys and gals. With some help from Disc Alley Golf Club the park district set up a Disccraft Ace race at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake to be held on Saturday August 11. Here is the blurb going into our park district summer brochure.

"The Crystal Lake Park District along with the Disc Golf Alley Club invites you to take aim and throw for the chains at the 2007 Discraft Ace Race held at the Lippold Park Disc Golf Course. Each registered participant will receive two identical, never-before-seen Discraft prototype discs, SuperColor mini as well as a Discraft hat.
Players are required to use the player package discs, and only these discs. Each player is allowed only one throw per hole and will keep track of how many aces are had over two 18-hole rounds. The player with the most aces after 36 holes is declared the winner. The overall winner will receive a Discraft merchandise package valued at or above $300. Check-in and registration will begin at 8am and end promptly at 9am. For more information on the 2007 Ace Race please visit: http://discraft.com/events_acerace_07.htm"

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at jdavison@crystallakeparks.org.

This sounds like fun.Is it a points system like hit metal 1 point ace 3 points or is it only based on aces?

stpitner

It's points based, but if you hit an ace you score an A and if you hit metal you score an M.  The most number of Aces hit is the winner, and if there's a tie, the tie breaker goes to the most number of times Metal was hit.  A persistent tie after that goes to a CTP throwoff.

We can allow up to 8 people per hole (you're only getting 1 throw after all), so that allows for up to 144 people to come out and max out the field on this 18-hole course!

I better bring sharpies to make sure everyone gets their name on the bottom of their disc lol.

To clarify, the holes will be shortened, correct?  I think Eric said 180-250?
"Don't throw the disc.  Let the disc throw you."

I don't know if ALL of them will be shortened, but Discraft suggests that all holes should be in the 180' - 250' range.  So holes like 3, 5, and 6 would definitely be shorter, 4 would probably be from the short tee, 12 might not change at all who knows.  I don't know if I'm going to sit down with Eric to figure all that out or who will get that taken care of, but yes, holes will be shortened to make them easier to ace or hit metal.

I will be meeting with the park district before the event, and we will be going out to Lippold Park and shortening the tee pads.  Only those that need to be shortened will be marked with flags.

last year's was the Slipstream-GT

Was there any history done on last year's event?  How many total people played? How many total throws and how many aces?  Just wondering.

stpitner

no history as this will be the first Ace Race here, but here's a list of all of the places that held an ace race last year: http://discraft.com/events_acerace_06.html  Maybe contacting some of those TD's will help.

Hopefully someone would hit an ace but man, going to be tough.  I guess the trick is to arrive early to get your disc and hit the course for an hour trying to figure out how it's going to fly?

We shorten the holes...

You get two brand new prototype Discraft discs before they are publicly available...

You grip... you rip...

ACE.

The Disc Golf Alley Club brings you the "Take Aim and Throw for the Chains" Discraft One Disc Ace Race!  It is coming to Lippold Park in Crystal Lake, IL on Saturday, August 11th, 2007.  For a $20 entry fee you will receive 2 identical brand new Discraft prototype discs, a discraft hat, and a supercolor mini, a $55 value!

Format will be 1 throw per player per hole while playing 2 rounds of 18 holes.  Your throw must use one of the two prototype discs that you received that day.

The winner will be determined by counting the total number of Aces hit.  If there is a tie for the number of Aces, the tiebreaker will be the number of times Metal was hit.  If the tie persists, a CTP throwoff will determine the winner.

The grand prize winner will receive a Discraft Prize Package filled with $300 worth of Discraft merchandise!

The holes will be shortened so that Aces will not only be a lot more reasonable to hit, they will also almost certainly be hit!

Registration information will be posted this evening.

Checkin and registration will take place from 8 AM - 9 AM and a players meeting probably around 9:15 AM.  We'll shoot for somewhere around a 9:30 AM tee off time.

This event maxes out at 144 players (8 players per card), so let's fill that field!

Has anybody seen or thrown the prototype yet?

Mukey

Usually they don't get them until right before the tournament to prevent anyone playing from getting one & learning the disc

We did an ace race several years ago.....the disc was hard to control in the wind but the contest was fun!!

Quit work, play disc golf :)

Last year it was the Meteor. I know the Glide was either the year before or the year before that. That is all I know! I'll have to add this to my calendar.

We have to pre-order some of the player packs ahead of time, so the more pre-registrations that are received, the better time we will have with knowing how many player packs to order.  I will be handling the registration and ordering of player packs.

For check/money order, send $20 registration fee to:

Scott Pitner
PO Box 87170
Carol Stream IL 60188-7170

For online registration, you can pay through PayPal.  It is $22 for online payment to cover PayPal fees.  PayPal payments can be sent to scott@paperorplasticsports.com

There is a form that needs to be filled out for mailed registrations.  Online registrants will probably have to fill out the form when you check-in.  Eric will send me the form on Tuesday and I will post it here then.

I believe the Slipstream-GT was one of the ace race discs as well?

REGISTRATION FORMS:
The registration form is available here.  Please print out, cut in half, and send it in the mail along with your payment.  If you pay online you can either bring this with you on the day of the event or fill it out at the event.  There are 2 entry forms per page, so if you want to sign up multiple people, feel free!

I will be ordering about 40 player packs to start, and once we hit about 30 pre-registrations I'll probably go and pick up another 40 (or more than that if the registrations come in fast).  PLEASE pre-register so that we know how many player packs to order!

IF for some reason you cannot make it even though you pre-registered: We will still find a way to get you the players pack.  It won't hurt you at all to pre-register and then later find out you can't make it!  You still get the stuff!

I just added to the original post some more information about the start times.

Check-In/Registration is from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM.  We'll try to have a players meeting around 9:15 AM and shoot for a 9:30 AM tee off time.  Since there's only one throw per hole, it should move fairly quickly.  I wouldn't be surprised if we had everyone out of there by 2 PM.

www.discgolfalley.com has some more information.
