I think a bigger impact than tournaments is the fact that Sunday is Mothers' Day and league attendance is going to be low enough already.

I second moving the date back one week.
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

I'd like to make two points here, being moderator and all....

1) This thread is about the upcoming monthly club meeting, NOT Safari 2003.

2) The board, "Official Club Postings & Info" is just that. Please keep negative or inflammatory comments of this particular board. Ideally, constructive comments should go in the discussion topic to which it is about, or start a new thread in the Club Members board.

Thanks, I'll go back to lurking in the corner now...
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

Look, can we please GET BACK ON TOPIC for this thread?

Shawn, the Madison safari never got changed because there was no need. It was decided at the meeting, I can't recall if you were there yet or not, to hold off on switching it and Streamwood until the Monday before to allow the Madison folks to get the baskets in. Since the baskets have been in the ground since May 1st there's no need to reschedule the event. As far as conflicts with other events go, the further we get into tournament season the more likely we are to have local events draw players away from the Safari - this is why it was structured as a best 7 of 12. You don't need to play each and every event. Of course, it works out quite well if you do because you can drop your lowest finishes.

If Jim neglected to say to the locals at Madison Meadows that the switch wasn't set in stone yet then thats his bad for sending out incorrect/incomplete information.

Those were not two rules I posted before; one was an observation and the other was a suggestion. Myself and Jay, being elected Webmasters cooperatively moderate the discussion boards.

While we try to keep out of things like this, sometimes it becomes necessary to remind everyone who uses the Club board to try to keep on topic and to not necessarily infer things from posts when it is nearly impossible to sense tone from something thats typed.

It is good to know however that people feel so passionately about such things, as it can only mean that they care about the club and its future well being.

That being said... Shawn, you and I both know that you're plenty smart, there's no need to belittle yourself just because you got called out for being off topic. It happens to all of us from time to time. I'm going off topic now with the last hour I've spent composing this reply.

Besides, you're not going to get banned and you certainly are not a bad person.

For what its worth, you didn't seem to mind terribly a month ago when the plan for this Saturday's Safari was announced.

Ugh.

In the future, and I guess this is more directed at Ops as they should be the ones coming up with the event calendar for 2004, can we try to avoid scheduling things like club meetings on holidays when attendance is all but assured to be low?
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

I've been wanting to have league again at Parkside since we stopped doing it Winter 2001...

So, I suppose that's a yes - eh?
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

QuoteBC (05-19-2003 01:14 p.m.):

is it still going to be on sunday?

If I remember correctly, league was permanently moved to Sunday mornings..
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

The time change is effective in two weeks, yes?
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

I think Brett mis-stated when he said 'start time for leagues.'

He's not trying to change the tee-off time from 10:30 to 10:15, just the time players need to report. The way I see it, if we ask people to begin to congregate around his (or whomever's) car at 10:15 we run a better chance of getting started on time.

With the higher turnouts this year, our tee time for league has been slowly moving later in the day until lately we've been getting started closer to 10:45.
Don't forget your towel!

jim

who left the club?

Shawn, please call me at work today and let me know when you'll be at Bevier with Shaboo.  I'll be out there about 5pm (work sucks). 847-535-0795

jim

Sure, go ahead and blame the ex-president!

At that Safari, I was simply vocalizing what people there that day were suggesting. I told Bill, David, and others that this was not set in stone and to check the website.

Mirth or Jay, can you please update the website big and bold on index2.html to let people know the schedule is in tact? If you don't have time, lemme know and I'll get it done late tonight.

Brett, don't sweat the small stuff. When a club takes on as much as we have, there are bound to be conflicts - both of scheduling and personalities. If you could make everyone happy, you'd be god.

jim

At the meeting, we will need members to sign up for specific days they can help with the Disc Golf Lessons we're teaching on Tuesday nights from June through August. Please check your schedules and volunteer!

jim

I will update everyone with specifics at the meeting, but I found another sports insurance agency who will insure the club for $1M Liability for one year for $350.  we also need to get a general medical policy for approx. $40 a year on top of that.

Pending anyone having a cow about this or the WPD rejecting it, we will be covered by the middle of next week.

jim

Things are moving along quickly and very well so far this year!  Thanks to everyone who's doing anything from cleanup to TDing an event.

As you readers may have gleaned from some various threads here, WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS PLEASE!!!

What for?

-Junior League

-Singles League

-Disc Golf Classes at Bevier

-Course Improvement

Even if you can only offer one or two days over the summer, PLEASE DO!  Any time you can give will help a lot!

Since we are a club, and so much of what we do is volunteer-based, Brett or myself cannot force anyone to work. So here is the pressure sale:

If more folks don't volunteer for some of these events, THEY WILL NOT HAPPEN. Period.  I resigned as Prez so that I would not have to do so much. However, I'm doing no less than before. I can't any longer. My family life is suffering and I'm tired of putting them last.

If you want new holes at Bevier, help put them in.

If you want new teepads at Fairfield, help put them in.

If you want the club to have enough money to run events and buy discs and run leagues, volunteer to help run an event.

PLEASE don't get me wrong. I see a bunch of folks doing a bunch of things, but the club needs you to do more.

jim

I vote for keeping league start time at 10:30, because that's what we've been advertising since January. If someone shows up at 10:25 and didn't know about the change, that player will be PISSED, and rightly so.

Dates for Juniors:

Saturdays, 10:00-11:30am, June 14th - August 16th

Dates for DG Classes:

Session 1:

Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30pm

June 10th, June 17th, June 24th, July 1

Session 2:

Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30pm

July 15th, July 22nd, July 29th, August 5th

So far, a two wonderful people have volunteered for Juniors and DG Classes!  THANKS!

CEValkyrie

We are going to push the meeting back 1 week to 05-18-03. There will be a ton of people out of town @ Stading Rocks on the 11th. Can someone change the website date?

I don't have a problem sticking to schedules. Someone will need to run leagues & the meeting that day. I'm taking the wife to the Cubs/Cards game that day. At least right now, that is the plan.

As much as i'd like to keep this date the same, there are too many key members that are not going to attend this meeting. It will be pushed back to the following Sunday.

I have no problem keeping the Safari the same. The pins are in so let's play! Last year we planned around all the schedules & no one showed up at Crystal Lake except for Jim, Jason, & I. This has been scheduled since December. Good luck to all those who participate!! Wish I could be there.

The club meeting went well today. Jim, Jon, Damon, & I discussed several items.

Incorporation Status-] Almost done. Should be completed once paperwork returns. Talk to Jim.

Bevier Update-] Look under Bevier post. Chain upgrades, basket #1, new holes, etc.. Talk to Jim

Round Lake Update-] Look under work day post. Almost ready for the 2003 Illinois Open. Talk to Brett

Insurance Upate-] Would cost $400.00 for the entire year. Looks like we are going to purchase this. Talk to Jim.

Disc Golf Class-] Steve has signed up to help. We need more volunteers to come out. Talk to Jim.

Junior Leagues-] Starts June 14th. We need volunteers to help & run. Volunteer to take a week. Please!

Singles Leagues-] Started last Wednesday. Jim has organized but we need people to volunteer to run this league.

Best Shot Leagues-] *Change* Club will no longer start the Ace Pool or Add $20.00 when an ACE is hit. A unanimous vote was taken. We will still use the same rollover rule & if it is hit the final week, the ace pool will start @ $0.00 the following league.

I forgot to discuss this. Summer League is 15 weeks long. I'll run this league again & come up with the schedule.

I would like to propose a time change to a 10:15AM start time. With more players, it's taking longer to organize. Hopefully we can start @ 10:30AM instead of 10:45AM. What do you think?

Also, I would like to propose playing Fairfield twice & Parkside twice for Best Shot this summer. We could play Bevier 3 weeks then Parkside, then Play Bevier 3 more weeks then Fairfield. What do you think?

Widdershins Open-] Jim & Shawn are organizing. Come out & play!!

Illinois Open-] Flyers & Sponsorship are almost done. Illinois Open Stamped Discs are done. Jon is getting lighter discs to give to Dr. Dye. Brett has to talk to park district about setting up temp baskets on the other side of the creek.

Bag Tag Update-] Jay, any tags left?

Safari Update-] Any updates?
