U suck, BC. Actually, I wish I were going with you!

I have a hatchet that rides along in my trunk for occasions such as this, so we have that covered.

Brett - Yeah, I have a crapload of flags still as well as two half rolls of the fluorescent orange tape for marking pins.

The only tees we should be marking are the ones that don't get mowed... What's the point of using paint if its gonna grow & get mown?

Hmm... sucky turn of events.

I'm still planning on working Saturday morning, as are some other people - at least, nobody's backed out yet. I can't help tonight, and probably not tomorrow night.

However on Saturday I can bring my weedwacker, shovel, rakes, and hatchet. Maybe leave me a detailed email or something & I'll play straw boss on Sat?

Guess at the Widds we just say that hole B is 'safari-like' ;)

Oh, any news on the replacement #1?

Yeah Steve, you may be better off bringing a gas-powered trimmer if you have one.... Unless you don't care about the blade in your mower.

I think we're better off running old hole A (under the lines & across the stream) than scurrying to piece together the new B.

Besides, the old alternate would leave you a short little walk to the next tee. The fairway should be fairly unfriendly enough, especially for those who have just enough power to get to the stream and didn't fade dead on straight.

Thanks also to Greg from Lansing who noticed we were doing course work and pitched in.

A mighty fun round was had afterwards. SO good to have a basket back in 1 again!

Welcome to the 'hood, Chris.

You may be interested in playing in our fun, Sunday morning best shot league. The format is random draw, pro/am doubles.

$6 base entry plus $1 for Ace fund and $1 for weekly cash CTP.

Hope to see you out there!

Oh, most people say it 'Bee-vee-er' although I've been told the correct pronunciation is 'Bev-ee-ur'.

Hey, you're not in exile... you just choose to not make the 4+ hour drive every Sunday for league!  :p

I think Jim meant that they cleared to the North of the treeline, not along the southern edge of the right of way.

Basically same hole, except the tee wouldn't be out of the woods - if I understood correctly.

QuoteCE-Valkyrie (07-23-2003 10:16 p.m.):

Someone threw the bridge in the water going from C to #9. At first I thought it got washed away but they also threw the 4 stone walkway squares in the water too. There isn't a chance in hell those got washed in. Can you say ASSHOLES! I think it's those pricks with the go karts & 4 wheelers. They are riding right next to the basket C & they even found their way to the fairway of A. Anyone have some barbed wire we can string across to take off their heads? :)

That SUCKS! were you able to get the bridge back up or is it sill in the water?

We should ask WPD what they feel about the ATV'ers who come through and damage park property...

First, we were interested & remeasured #9. It is a whopping 286ft. I knew that sign was off but man, 46 feet.

Yeah, wasn't it decided in the past that the sign measurement is somwere on the opposite bank of the stream from the current placement?

Quote

Can anyone make some NEXT TEE signs & get them laminated? It would be nice to have 3 of those since we now will have 3 holes no one knows about.

Whomoever can do it wanna make maybe 6 instead of three? That way we can also point folks back to the concrete once they're done with the alternate.

Next, we went back & checked out the soon to be Hole B. We measured it from the regular tee location & it will be around 250FT.  The long will play around 270FT. Not sure where the 3rd tee location is going to be. This hole is going to be much better than I thought. It may become the toughest hole on the course.

Are we keeping the whole as currently cleared by WPD? Sounds like that's what you're saying.

By the way -

Welcome Johnny! Hole 9 is pretty hard to get in during the summer becuase of the soccer players & the fans. Our weekly doubles league, Sundays at 10:30, has cut out hole 9 for the remainder of the summer or soccer season, whichever ends first.

We used to have our doubles league on Thursday evenings but permanently switched it to Sunday mornings because there were soccer players all over the park on Thursdays.

*hopefully* WPD is serious about moving all soccer in Waukgean to the sports complex they're building by the lakefront & we can get hole 9 back.

Your suggestion of moving the basket is a very good one & has been discussed in the past. I like it, and think it may end up being harder than the current placement.

Perhaps it should be thought about as a future to-do item, pending approval of Trigg & co.?

Which field are you talking about?

I am tenatively planning on helping Saturday morning, but likely won't know for sure until Friday. If I can make it out I will bring weedwhacker & any other requested tools.

Going up for a long weekend the end of September, same weekend Myk & Joe are going.

If the club has funds available, it may not be a bad idea to invest in a couple bags of quikcrete and rebury A & B. If anything, the additional weight could help be a deterrent...

How hard would it be to etch a serial number or other identifying feature on the existing baskets in the park? If its a sure method of identification I don't see why WPD wouldn't allow/do it.

Brett just called me, he's at the park right now & has found the majority of basket C. the top assembly is nowhere to be found but the bottom half of the basket & pole plus collar and anchor still in concrete were found in the thick stuff by the creek.

More info when I call him back in a few.

Update -

The basket was found by the crossing for the old B hole, in the tall rough. Its possible that the top assembly is still out there.

Brett also says that it looks like the basket was dragged behind something and when he had his Explorer back there to take the remains away a kid on a three-wheeler came over the hill to the East, saw him with the basket, and took off.

Draw your own conclusions but this sounds like the work of our ATV kids.
