I thought this was a good course. It had a ton of different shots. 24 holes, dirt tees. Some of the holes had long tees. I'll start with the negatives. We did not play the long tees. We played a round then kept score for the second round. I shot -11. They said this was supposed to be a challenging course. Parkside is much tougher from the shorts than this course. Maybe if I had time to play the longs I might have a different opinion. There were only 3 holes over 300ft. It was difficult to find the way around the course. It was also very very muddy. Other than that, this was a worthwhile course to play. You have to have a complete game. Many tight fairways, lefty holes, protected pins, etc... On a positive note. The elevation is great. If you like to hike, this is the place to play. You are up & down all day. Hole #2 is a sweet ravine shot. #16 is also but it is not open & a pain in the ass. We looked for discs both times but I found 5 on that hole. Not bad for a days work. Another reason I like this course is because of hole #7. 275ft, straight shot, pin surrounded by trees except front. I threw a laser right @ the basket. It bounced directly off the #plate. Thought I had my 2nd Ace & almost creamed myself.  I would go back & play again if I was headed that way.

Again I agree with Brett. Here's my quick rundown.

Hole #2. I could throw this all day and I love. I want to play an entire course with shots like this.

Hole#16. I could never play this hole again and be happy, On sencond thought it would make me happy to never throw it again. I hated it. Maybe when things aren't so muddy and they get rid of a few brances here and there I'll give it another shot.

So other than 16 mud! Mud everywhere, but thats not really their fault is it :-) Hiking though is a pain in the ass, and my legs felt like they were going to go out. I liked all the elveation changes, but I would prefer when going down a steep slope to have some stairs maybe?? I twisted my ankle about 8 times throughout the 2 rounds we played.

All in all though I really liked lots of different shots and good fun holes. Locals are creepy, but I would play this course again, even making the drive out specifically to do so.

I HATE it when the stream gets annoyed!

Quit work, play disc golf :)

I played West Park yesterday. Very crowded.  Top assembly and chains missing on hole 16(?).  The on/off slight drizzle made the course really muddy and slick. Most teepads were not usable. Lots of rude disc golfers.
I really like West Park, but am seeing the need for refurbishment. The silt is eroding worse every year; the stone steps in the ravines are falling; and some basket collars are showing because the soil seems 3" lower than just a couple of years ago.  I hope this course doesn't fall into further disrepair. I wonder if the Joliet Park District has plans/funds to do some work.

Naw, I can handle them.  That's why I'm called the bionic-bowflex buff-god.
West Park is such a cool course, and the oldest in IL, that I just wanted to see if anyone knew of any maintenance/rehab projects planned.....

does anybody know the par at west park? I cant seem to find it anywhere online.

CEValkyrie

All holes are par 3. 24 holes = Par 72. Hope this helps.

seems to me the only solution would be to just pull the course for a good while; maybe with the new course in Mokena that might be more feasible, but I'm in no position to know.

It's a drag, because vandalism is also an issue there; I remember playing the course about a year ago this time, and some idiots had completely flipped a cement bridge near #4, which couldn't have happened during a normal storm/flood, so go figure...
thanks,

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

I wonder how West Park & the other courses in the Joliet area are doing. Big winds & tornadoes  might have done some damage.

Gary has told me in the past that the bridge damage is from floods. They wind up having to fix bridges every year there because of that. I guess that little stream becomes a torrent on occasion.

Yeah i live right next to mokena, in tinley park.  There was a funnel sited in mokena, might be some trees down but i havnt made my way over there yet.  My home, Utica, got pretty much wiped out but my family is okay though.

Glad to hear your family is ok. Let us know how the courses are doing. Hope all those Oaks in Mokena are still standing.

Utica looked pretty blasted on the news. Sorry to hear about it. Strong winds today too; hopefully no repeats.

tbchdisker11

Thanks for all the concerns guys.  Youll be glad to know that the Mokena course still in great condition.  I played 54 holes on Saterday afternoon and the course was looking good.  They were in the process of putting in nice looking benches behind almost every tee pad.  It looks like Mokena's course is going to be one of the best in Illinois.
