So what happens the first time a kid or parent is hurt by a disc?  Sign or no sign, I think that = end of that hole and possibly end of course.  All we need is the newspaper headline of "disc golfer breaks 8 year old's arm".  Isn't there anything anyone can do to move the hole and make it safer for the kids in the park now while there are still construction crews there?
That kid is back on the escalator!!!

You can't make parks perfectly safe. People get hit by stuff in public parks all the time. Kites, bicycles, horse shoes, you name it and on any given weekend someone is getting their noggin plastered by it in some park somewhere. Pedestrians get their head split open at Buffalo Grove about once every two or three years. The course doesn't get pulled--stuff happens. I think a couple of signs would be nice.

i drilled some dude on a bicycle last year at Adler on hole 7.  he came flying around the corner and had no chance to react. i don't really have a point to this story.

I remeber that throw. You blasted that guy and he stayed on his bike. That was pretty impressive.

it's tough when you get hit.  I was whacked right in the elbow on my right arm as I was waiting to tee on hole 9 at Westchester.  The guys were playing hole 8.  They did yell fore, but by the time I realized where the disc was at I was hit.

Nothing like taking a driver to the arm full force!

It's also the responsibility of the player to yell if there's going to be an errant disc or just skip the hole if there are a lot of kids and you don't feel confident enough in your throwing.

Absolutely.  Although wise, it's pretty tough to skip a hole however.

My youngest son took 11 stitches across his eyebrow from an errant throw.

Given the proximity of the basket to the playground, and the obvious hyzer route directly over the playground, I just can't see this placement remaining where it is.

Darn! I had a great mental image of someone getting knocked off of their bike unexpectedly by a Michler drive!
Where did the guy get hit?

Leg area if I remember correctly. We called out and he saw it coming. He took both feet off of the peddles to try to avoid the hit. Didn't work, got him anyway. He was a trooper and just kept biking along.

This is a given, but on the hole in question, the kids play area is almost within the jump putt circle.  They're literally asking you to throw at the kids because trees block most routes except the hyzer route which puts kids directly in harms way.  This is a way different situation than when someone gets hit by being the wrong place at the wrong time.

BTW practicing for Lombard last year I threw a lazer shot about 3' off the ground right at a pee wee football mom's head who was sitting in a lawn chair watching the kids play.  We all yelled as loud as we could, but she wasn't hearing us.  The disc flew in front of her face at nose level and looked to miss her face only by about an inch.  She was pissed more because we were laughing (after we realized it didn't hit her, of course) than because I almost hit her.

Is this course still open?

Is it open all year round?

OK to play night golf here?  Is it safe to be alone?

Thanks for responding in advance...

I have to look for an apartment for my next two projects(Park Ridge and Schaumburg).  Elk Grove seems to be in the middle of them..  The place I am thinking about renting is about 4 miles from the course in elk Grove. Having trouble finding something across the street. ;D

The course is still open. Huge concrete tees. Some of the baskets have seen better days. It is very safe area even at night. You'd probably have to check the park rules sign to see what the hours of the park are to determine when if would be legal to play night golf there...I don't know about that one.

Mr. Thingdoer

Sunny Hill and Shady Oaks are only 2-3 miles from Schaumburg. All of those courses are safe. I'm pretty sure you can play at night at all of them.

El Mexicano

I believe Clark Park is next to a Police station on Biesterfield...yah it's safe.

Sweet. I used to play Elk Grove at lunch sometimes when I worked in Schaumburg. We moved our office in 2006 and I haven't been back since. At that time they had a few that really needed to be replaced.

The park is very well maintained. The tees are way to big. They used enough contrete to put tees on an 27 hole course. I played there a couple of weeks ago and met some dude named "FLASH" Pdga#21. He said the original Clark Park DGC was a Steady Ed design. Never knew that.
