Just wondering what what day the lowest caliber of players will be playing and what that division will be called, I have a bachelor party that weekend but I want to play if I can so I need to know what division to put myself in.

Streamwood is my home course as well. I may be going out some time this week...a couple of times if possible. I will PM you if I can get out of work early enough, but not today. After the bad finish at Rockford I need the practice.

I hear that!

We had 224 players in Rockford...biggest IOS ever!!! And no one hit an ace!

We had 118 players at Streamwood last year which was one of our least attended events IOS events in 2005. So we've decided to bump the ace pool cap up to $1000 for Streamwood to help drive more interest. Although Streamwood has always been one of our least attended IOS events it is NOT the worst course that we play on. There's a lot of fun to be had on that course.

It's in only two weeks. August 12th and 13th. So tell all your friends to get their registrations in now. With a guaranteed ace pool of $1000, this one might fill this year!

Jon, with $1000 in the ace pool, how much is in reserve?  Even if the ace pool is hit on Saturday there will be a nice ace pool on Sunday, i know that.

If you want in on the first shot at the ace pool and you are rec or intermediate, there is the trophy-only option, $17 or so for on-line pre-reg gets you 15 brass, all the CTPs, and your chance at a cool grand for an ace.

See the Sidebet thread for the new sidebet announcement.

I don't have that number at work but it is somewhere around $200 in reserve after the $1000 cap. If no aces are hit on the Pro/Adv day in Streamwood then the ace pool for the lower day will also be $1000. If one or two people hit aces on the pro/adv day then we will still have a really nice ace pool for Sunday's lower divisions. If we were to collect about $150 in ace pool money per day then we'd still have about $500 for Sunday (if Saturday's gets hit once or twice).

The process has started again. About 20 players have been added to the PDGA Tour Page for this event.

I merged the two Streamwood threads into this one. It actually reads fairly well with the merged messages!

Spend the extra $3 and pre-register.

Merch Announcements:  I'll have 30 of the new ESP Pulse custom stamped.  These are First Runs.  This is more overstable than a Surge and just as fast.  This disc is going to be dynamite for power throwers on long holes [hmmmmm, any of those at Streamwood?] and a great headwind driver for mere mortals like me.  I will have the Drones again.  This is an overstable mid-range, great for the upshot that must cut hard at the end and also great for a short anhyzer approach that will land flat and not roll.

But wait, there's more:  More thumb-gripper Z-Surges.  Those sold out at Rockford.  More ESP Buzzzes at 12 Brass.  For those of you who have been wanting X-Wasps I have better: X-stability and Z-durability, the new ESP Wasp.  Just what we need, a stinging critter who knows what we really think of him!  I'm getting new stock in Z Flicks, both 150 and full weights, and Z-Storms, 150 and full weights.  Kelsey will test the 150 Flicks and tell you how they go.

Tired of two sizes in hats: too tight and too loose?  The Discraft hats have the adjustable cloth band in the back for the perfect fit.  I got a deal on the hats and they will be 18 brass!  I have people asking for Discraft cloth merch so I'm going to see how it goes.

The Throw Discraft Player Pack is still available.  I'll be adding 30 D-discs to whatever was left from Rockford including all the Drones and probably some more Challengers.  Tell your friends about this.  For your 15 Brass player pack you can get a D-disc and any other disc, including the ESP stuff, while supplies last, in the morning before play starts, one per customer.  This is like a $22 or $24 value based on how ESP is priced at other tournaments.

Looks like I'll be in for the discraft players pack next time if you have ESP Wasps.

I want to try those ESP Wasps too.  Now that I throw mid-ranges off the tee more and more, I'm really curious how the ESP Wasps will fly.

The History of the Sturgeon

In 2003 Jon and Brett wanted to run the first sanctioned Discontinuum tournament.  Brett was VP and Jon was Jon.  I was in Michigan.  In spite of incredible passive-aggressive opposition from other elements in the club leadership we pulled off the Illinois Open, a one-day tournament at Fairfield that filled to fivesomes with 95 players.

As we were planning the Illinois Open it seemed like if we wanted to do this properly, Jon, Brett and I would not be able to play.  We were planning a little disc golf vacation to follow the IO, so I planned a little sanctioned trophy-only tournament on the Tuesday following.  It fell on a full moon.  All of the full moons have names.  This one was the Sturgeon Full Moon.  So the tournament had a name.

I was just going to offer one division, advanced, and it was going to be a $5 entry fee with $5 off lunch at Putters.  Some women wanted to play short tees, and some really old men wanted to play short tees, and then some pros wanted to play for serious cash, so I wound up having a bunch of divisions and 34 players on a Tuesday.

2003:  Al Schack won open.  Scott Where-is-he-today? Slater won advanced.  Brett stunk up the course.  I stunk up the county.  Jon stunk up the state!

2004: I held the tournament at BRATS.  I set the new PDGA record for fewest number of players at a sanctioned tournament, four, breaking my old record of five!   :o  ;D  We offered two divisions, pro and advanced, and I won Advanced.  I would have won in pro too, but let's not brag.

2005: Brett held the Sturgeon under an assumed name, the Discontinuum Club Championship.  Only Kelsey, Jon and I were there to observe the Sturgeon, so I won.

2006: During the scheduling process a lot of tournaments kept changing months and weekends due to various conflicts with other stuff.  When the dust finally settled, I looked at a lunar calendar to schedule the Sturgeon and, wow, Streamwood fell on the Sturgeon weekend.  Streamwood had been known as the Stream Shady, but the Streamwood Sturgeon has better alliteration so I unilaterally renamed the tournament I had unilaterally named originally.

Unfortunately, I will not have Sturgeon stamped discs this year.  The artwork is cute, a cartoon sturgeon flying in front of the full moon.

The doubles league at Streamwood is still on Tuesday nights run by Elmo (Chris DeHaan?) starting around 6 PM.  This week we are playing the regular tees on the wood chips by the wooden tee signs.  Next week we play the alternate tees - different ones for every hole, some longer, some shorter.  Come on out and practice for the Sturgeon.

Are the alternate tees marked? I didn't know there were any.

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

Sometimes the flags are left on the alternate tees, but usually they are not marked.  Elmo says he's planning on installing some type of permanent markings, but I don't know his time frame.  The different tees make the course very different and just as challenging.
