The Torque is Discraft's newest midrange. It is supposed to fly farther than the Buzzz. It is not yet approved by the PDGA (so says Mark Ellis). It has a bead like the Wasp, but grips like a Buzzz. We got one in our player's pack at Am Nationals.

Quote from: CEValkyrie on September 11, 2006, 05:35:19 PMYes, the walk is very long. Hated to do it but I thought it was worth it for those 3 holes and I was not guranteed there would be no soccer going on that weekend or we would have had a nice par 4. I did not place the soccer goals there but I actually like the idea of having it there. A disc does fly thru the net but it's a pretty good obstacle. There could be a backup but that rough isn't too terrible. The rough on 17 to the right is much worse.

Brett, I'm sorry that I sounded critical.  I didn't mean to.  Given how the course is squeezed into the available acreage, I was wondering how you were going to manage the extra holes.  I'm impressed in the way that you did.  Should be fun!

I didn't think your post was critical. I'll be the first to complain about long walks but I figured i'd explain.

That 3rd Safari hole for Open seems great, especially for spectators. Good design as always Brett.

Now if we could only get EVERYONE in IL putting in a course to run the design by you first..... :confused3:

I'd have liked to see #9 tee to #10 hole as a safari.

I'm not quite envisioning where the route would be off the tee. I believe the pavillion would block the route to the long tee across the river. Would there be a short placement drive to the bridge then across?

Thanks for the comments Chris. I really would love a chance to design a top notch course in this area. I am tired of playing Par 2 golf every day.

I actually think the 1st 2 will be the best. I think 2 really good drives and a good 2nd shot can card a 3. The 3rd hole should be a fairly easy 3 as long as you make a good upshot. Hole 4 will be a tough birdie to get.

Now I'm questioning my memory. I'll have to look again on Sunday, but I think it would either be a well placed shot for the bridge gap or a huge anhyzer over the top.

I like 4's pad to 5's basket...or 6's pad to 4's basket. But yeah the first 2 holes are going to be fun to watch.

All players coming to Aurora:

I will have a donation box for discs to be donated to a youth mental health facility in Rock Island, Illinois. Any clean used or new discs in fairly good condition are welcome. Emphasis on beginner plastic would be appreciated. I'd like to send her 30 to 40 discs. Is there anyone from the Rock Island area going to be at the tournament in Aurora that would be willing to deliver the donated discs? Let me know so I can save on the shipping.

The following letter has been edited to remove personal information since it was sent to me in a private letter:

Dear Mr. Brakel,

I am writing as a youth rehabilitation specialist for a mental health facility
in Rock Island, IL.  Everyday I work with youth and young adults with mental
illnesses.  In an effort to get these youth out to exercise and socialize, I am
trying to get them involved in disc golf.  As a lover of the sport myself, I see
it as a way to increase self-esteem among young people who do not get chances
everyday to see how special they are.  I am wondering if you or anyone you know
can be contacted for a donation of disc's for this cause.  Please feel free to
contact me anytime at the above email or phone number.

Regards,

Youth Rehabilitation Specialist

Would that be dx plastic? I can give them my Champion plastic. I'll be donating 5 or 6.. so maybe some of each? They're all in good shape and unmarked.

my guess would be no monsters & other sharp edged discs... rocs, aviars, other discs you may give to a beginner to learn on.

I think sharp edged are ok but more of the stable to under stable discs would be better.

Trophy discs are done.  Advanced First and Am Master First are on really nice throwing plastic, ESP Buzzzes.  I did all the Intermediate trophies on ESP Pulses.  Most of the rest are X Challengers.  I was using up random white plastic.

I'm going to have limited amounts of all the new ESP stuff for this one mainly the ESP Avenger and Crush.  I'll have lots of Pulses and Surges.  They are not ready to go retail with the Torq yet.  The plates for the hotstamp were delayed.

If you were feeling jealous that only Advanced and Advanced Master get ESP Buzzz trophy discs, come to Fairfield.  I now have a couple dozen white ESP Buzzzes for trophy discs.  I showed some of the Aurora trophy discs to Keith and Erich and they really liked them.

I think he was planning on giving his spot away to someone else, actually.  I could be wrong.

Somebody wanted me to bring an Innova Discatcher Sport to Aurora.  I can't find the e-mail right now.  This is the situation: I'll be bringing two Skillshots to Aurora, first come, first gone.  I will bring as many Discatcher Sports to Fairfield as I have pre-orders for next week when I'm doing my LAST Innova order.  I'll also order any other Innova special orders I get.

Speak now or forever hold your peace until next April.
