Using up half of my 2007 vacation days for this.  Gotta get up to Milwaukee and practice!

Anyone know how long of a drive it is to the worlds courses from Round Lake?  I'm torn between reserving a hotel room and just driving it each day.  For 50-80 bucks a night, I can deal with some driving.  Since I've never been to anything like this, any suggestions?

You're probably looking at a 1 to 1 1/2 hour drive each way from Round Lake up to the northern part of Milwaukee.  Traffic around Milwaukee generally isn't too bad, but you do have to watch your speed as you travel along I-94, especially right across the border and as well as Racine County.  The speeding ticket prices are OUTRAGEOUS if you get one in Racine county (and I'll still dispute what speed he had me clocked at lol).  The speed limit is 65 and you can do 70 without any problems though.

I can't speak as far as if it would be better to stay in a hotel or not.  I haven't played in a multi-day tournament before and I am not invited to this one.  If I were playing and had the cash to afford it, then I would say yes, do it because you want to give yourself the maximum amount of time to rest and recouperate before the next day.  All the extra driving the wears you down.  If the place has a pool or hot tub or some place to relax and unwind as well, all the better.

If you work gas costs into it, you're probably driving about 130-140 miles round trip.  That's probably half a tank of gas since a lot of it highway miles.  So that's about what, $15-$20 a day depending on what you drive.  Definitely cheaper than a hotel, but it's up to a 3-hour commitment each day for $15-$20.

Tim,

This is a premier event. Find 3 guys to split a hotel room with you for the week. You want to stay at the host hotel if possible. It's a great experience and you'll remember it for a long time. Trust me on this one.

Does anyone know which days the actual rounds will be?  I see the "activities" are starting on sunday and ending on saturday, but there are only 4 days of rounds.  I want to book a hotel, but do I really need to book sunday-friday???

Man it's going to be a lot of golf that week. With Hambrick going on over in Columbus on Saturday and Sunday then driving back here only to head up to Milwaukee for 4-5 days...that will be quite tolling. It's going to be sweet though!

You should play the Hambrick Sat-Sun, drive to Milwaukee for Worlds Tues.-Sat., drive to Cedar Lake for IN States on Sun., then hike it up to Highbridge for Pro Worlds Wed.-Sun.   :)   (that would be ~20 rounds of tournament golf in 16 days!)

I think some people may be doing both Worlds, which will be a HUGE 2 weeks of golf.

The Indiana States is not on my calendar for some reason so I will have to add that. Anyone have any info on the Michiana tournaments? I have not seen any of that info out yet.

get a hotel room, you will be glad you did.  Or at the very least see if you can find out what time you tee off  at and that can make a huge difference.  No biggie if tee off is at 11 However I know that as the week goes on they let the people with lower scores tee off later.  Besides its am worlds and its only in Milwaukee once.  Get the hotel.

I know in Des Moines there were 3 times times for tee offs every day. I'm not sure what the schedule will be for Milwaukee but I believe there will be 3 rounds per day on each course so if you get the early morning round you'll be waking up very early. Terry can give you more info on that.

Tee times at Des Moines were  7:30am, 11:30am & 3pm.  I'm also assuming all shot gun starts. With only 4 courses I can't see tee times working. Terry will have that info. Check this link. You can see a schedule of 2004 am worlds. It's on the left side.

I'm currently hunting for a person to caddy for the whole time, or maybe even just one round. I have my own place to stay in Milwaukee and don't want payment or anything, but you have to be pretty good and consistent (well, better than me which isn't very hard).

tacimala

Hey if you want to caddy, I'm all for it. Hit me up and we can talk.

A question for next year's event.  MA1 need 1000 points to qualify.  Do those points all have to be won in the MA1 division?  Do MA2 or MA3 points count?

I believe that all points in any non-pro division count. When looking at your entry on pdga.com. Only one total number of points is listed.

That is correct.  If an intermediate of rec player wants to win an invitation to Kalamazoo, no one has larger intermediate and rec fields than the Illinois Open Series.

lol.  Fear not Bruce.  I already plan to play all 6 IOS this year (intermediate).  And probably play trophy only adv/pro at least a few times to make a full weekend of throwin.

If you want to get more points play Advanced trophy only. Playing pro trophy only will give you pro points, not am points. You can't trade in your pro points at the end of the year for am points.  O0

AHA.  Thanks for the tip.  I didn't realize that trophy only players still get points. (though in Adv I wouldn't get many points anyway  :( )

But I may just do that.  Others also pointed out that I get a players pack if I play Adv.  :)

has anyone made reservations at either of the two "Main" hotels, I know one is the Four Points and I can't remember the second one.  Secondly, what is the reservation code when we call in to register for the rooms. Thirdly, does anyone know the rates for the Four Points or the other main hotel, i'm hoping to get into one of those two.  I'm already excited for my first Worlds week,  I'm all gittery with anticipation and it's not even march.
