This is what I'm thinking for 2007 Overalls.  I would like to produce a cool looking SuperColor disc to sell as both a fundraiser and qualifier for Overall awards.  Next year we will probably count your four best of six.  If you wanted in for Overall trophies you'd have to buy a SuperColor disc with cash by the third tournament, and when you bought it you'd sign up for Overalls.  The profit from the sale of the SuperColor discs would be retained for each division to pay for the overall awards, and if the program was popular, there'd be added prizes.

Here's a fer instance or two:  suppose 15 players got in for Overalls in advanced.  That would pay for a first place disc on a plaque, 2nd - 5th place discs, and 300 Brass for the payout.  Same deal if 15 got in in Rec or Int.  100, 80, 60, 40, 20 would be a nice Overall Bonus.

SuperColor discs cost $20.  Discraft is really firm about this.  I could only make one exception, and I cannot tell you what the exception is!  I would need about 50 people getting in for Overall awards.  I'd might go with a Buzzz or a Challenger for the disc, but maybe I'd go Spectra because you cannot get Spectras unless you get SuperColor.

Whatever the disc was, it would also be available for 20 Brass, but you could not get in on Overalls with Brass.  It would also be available as the Throw Discraft Special Player Pack item.

So, since we mostly have a Chicago suburban series, I was thinking of a Chicago theme for the SuperColor artwork.  I'm open to ideas but I have one of my own too.  I was thinking about doing a banana republic style election if anyone else wants to submit something.

I don't have a time frame yet.  I'm still looking for input, feedback and sarcastic remarks.

It sounds interesting Bruce.  I like the idea of people maybe putting in 5 bucks to be in Overalls.  With the following the IOS has and the number of people who play multiple events, I think you'd get alot of participation.

However, for 20 bucks, I think alot of people will not bother to participate.  Then the Overalls will lose all meaning because I won't have beaten all the people who played advanced in the IOS, but rather just the few who payed to be in it.

I can tell you that I'd probably buy the disc, but I wouldn't be thrilled about it.  I also think you'd see a shockingly low number of people participate at $20 additional (or really anything additional) to the cost of entering the 6 IOS events.  I'm also not thrilled about having to buy a disc I'll most likely never use (I have a garage full of those).  The other issue is that the competition would not be as fun.  You wouldn't be getting a true overall award.  You'd only be competing against those who forked over the money and not against all who played.  To me the idea of a season overall award is the recognition that you did better than ALL who played that year in your division.  My .02

If it isn't required, we could still sell them for added prizes in overalls. When you buy them you tell us what division it should go to. Would anyone buy one to support overalls if it wasn't required?

I would. Gary Lewis has always had "sponsorship" discs, which were usually something cool. I got a CE Rhyno when they first came out from him. As long as they were something desirable with cool artwork, I'd say they would go.

Clean your room! Shut the door! Get me another plate of food! Paint my house! Buy my disc!  Hey, nobody likes to be told what to do.  I agree that there will be a number of folks who simply will not want to buy into the "overalls".  Also, the lack of full or nearly full participation takes the fun out of it. Do you want to win the trophy when the guy who beat your pants off was simply to cheap to buy into the competition?  I like John's idea of selling an overall sponsorship disc and using some of the money to create cooler prizes for the winners.  This way nobdy is telling you what to do.  By the time six events have passed most of the regular players will have been guilted into buying the sponsorship disc.  This would be especially true of they could use their brass coins to purchase the disc.  The overall winner will indeed be the overall winner.

One more comment- if its truely "overalls" a cityscape would not be appropriate.  I am imagining corn fields or perhaps Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke. Of course, I think some of us would pay extra money into the pot just to see the TD's wearing their overalls when they pass out the overall trophy. ;D  "Hey, was that you brother Buce?" "Shucks no brother Jon, I think that was the sheep in a panic running away from cousin Brett.  By the way, is that a supercolor disc in your bib or are you just expressing greater than brotherly love?"

CEValkyrie

It depends what the fundraiser disc is. If it's a CFR that usually maintains it's price or even goes up i'm in. I might even be able to make som $ of EBAY ;D. I doubt too many pros would buy in though. If it's one of those super slick color max I would not buy in since the value of those is not much. I wouldn't throw it & I have too many discs sitting around. I'd rather use my $20 to pay for the gas going to my next tourney O0.

My only impression of the colormax discs is they look cool, but after feeling them, I can't ever see throwing them. The surface seemed kind of slick. I don't need a $20 disc for my wall.

The SuperColor is slippery if your thumb is very dry.  I have my Christmas Spectra right here.  If I were going to throw it today, I'd breathe some steam on my thumb or pick up a pinch of snow to get the dry off my thumb.

So this is what I'm thinking now, after holding our public meeting here and talking to Jon and Brett [but I'm still thinking]:

If the photoshop girl does a good job with the concept, I'm going to do 50 Supercolor Spectras.  No one will have to buy one.  They will be available for $20, 20 Brass or as the Throw Discraft player pack option.   I'll get them early, too.

For every Supercolor we sell for cash, the normal profit will go to the tournament process and the fund raising profit will go to overalls.  For every Supercolor we sell for brass, 7 Brass will go to overalls.  For every Supercolor you take as a player pack instead of the 15 Brass, 2 Brass will go to overalls.  I'll run throught the entire line, Spectra, Buzzz, Challenger, ?Avenger?, if they keep selling.

If you liked the Chicago Skyline disc i dyed, you'll like what we're working on.  We're using a genuine, unretouched Lake Michigan sunset behind a genuine unretouched view of the skyline from the lake with genuine unretouched Maui blue water!

Even if the IOS crew wanted to host a tourney every month they would not be able to because of what is mentioned above. Technically can't have two sanctioned events on the same day within a certain distance of one another. There woudn't be enough weekends available for them to do it basically.

HUH???????

IOS 2006:
April 22/23 IOS#1 Kenosha, WI
May 20/21 IOS#2 Lombard
June 24/25 IOS#3 Crystal Lake

July 29/30 IOS#4 Rockford
July 15/16 Peoria Open at Northwoods & McNaughton  (2 in one month)

August 12/13 IOS#5 Streamwood
September 16/17 IOS#6 Aurora
October 14/15 IOS#7 Round Lake

I think the IOS crew COULD do a tourney every month, but people need time off from running tournies & the attendance wouldn't be great in the winter.

BIG Huge ups to Bruce for driving here from MI all those times!

tacimala

What I was saying is that from what I know it is very hard to coordinate all of the tournaments in one zone because there aren't free weekends available. Gotta leave weekends for other tourneys!

Definitely agree that attendance would drop in the winter, but man there sure has not been many sanctioned events in the last two months!

Well, Taylor, it is Winter and this is the midwest. You hail from Michigan where there is usually more snow than here.  We have  had a very mild season but its still Winter.  In a real Winter there are a lot of weekends when nobody is going to play. This year there have been a lot of weekends when you could say, "hey it would have been really nice to have a tournament."  Yeah, I like to play in the snow and cold.  In fact, I plan on riding my bike to work tomorrow.  However, lots of folks take the cold weather months off from outdoor activities.   There is less attendance and for the TD's less reason for all the time, expense, fuss.  I do not want to be an apologist for TD's but I figure that unless you are really desirous of having an event, its just not worth it.  Terry really wanted to show off the new Milwaukee courses so he ran a couple events.  I am not sure those events events would have transpired otherwise.   Frankly, he was lucky as the weather has been very good considering its Winter.

Pitchers and Catchers report to Spring training in less than a month.  Sanctioned tourneys are right around the corner.  Hang in there.

Buce could probably shed light on this, but I think Michigan & Illinois are 2 very different states when it comes to disc golf. Michigan is known as the "Grip it & Rip it" state and Illinois is known as......flat? LOL

Come out to Bevier Leagues in Waukegan this Sunday. 10:00 AM.  Last week 16 people, the week before 22.  Serg Correa won $191.00 on his first throw of the day.  An ace and CTP on hole #3.

stpitner

nice job Serg :)  Tom S. deserves a nice honorable mention to pocketing that cash from the previous week.  it stinks to hear a big DOINK off the basket on 1 and then hear chain but no reward on 6.

Dave please in no way read my post as a complaint. My first post was just offering a defense for the TD's of the tournaments as to why they aren't more.

Having more tourneys available even in the off months is just wishful thinking for me. I'm just feeling the itch, that's all!

What does the drift in this thread over the past 24 hours have to do with 2007 overall prizes?
