I was out at Antioch on Friday afternoon.  If you are having problems sleeping head out to Antioch and play a few holes.  You will not be able to keep your eyes open due to the boredom.  On the other hand you will need to keep your eyes open so that you don't break an ankle on all the hidden sink holes out there.

I don't understand the nice stone around the baskets but having mud tees.  I am sure that there is a good explanation for something so ridiculous, but haven't a clue what it could be. The tee signs are nice, the baskets are nice. The tee pads are the worst. The course layout is an absolute joke.  The first 12 holes play like the same hole 12 times with a couple of very minor variations.

If I had to choose between playing a short 9 hole course in the city of Chicago or an 18 hole course in Antioch I would take the Chicago course at IIT 95 out of 100 times.

The IIT course took full advantage of the limited resources that they had and the Antioch course is a waste of 18 nice baskets and tee signs. Brutal.

Actually, I'd take Antioch over Waukegan.  I mean come on, the holes over the road are a JOKE!    Sure, Antioch could be major improved but thankfully its an 18 hole.  As I've said, any 18 hole is better than a 9

I'm not sure I understand your logic. You say the 6 holes across the street are a joke yet Antioch has 12 holes in a row where there is not 1 obstacle. The difference from Antioch and across the street at Waukegan is potential. There was potential for some holes in the woods and use of terrain on the east side of the course at Antioch. Across the street at Waukegan there is no potential. It's just an open field. Antioch is an example of poor design and lack meeting potential. From the course designer himself. "I can only throw 150 to 200ft and they all turn left. That is how I want this hole to play.'  By no means is Waukegan a great course but at least it makes you play some disc golf and has a variety of holes. Antioch is an embarassment to disc golf course design. I live 8 miles from Antioch and 20 or so to Waukegan. I've been to Antioch 5 times. That course sucks!

Get a little wind and the holes across the street play pretty hard.  They did what they could, i think waukegan is a good all around test as far as courses go around hear.

Are you serious?  First of all, the holes acrosst the street at Bevier are 1/3 of the course.  So, even if you find those holes incredibly unenjoyable, I'm not sure how you can still grade the entire course down below Antioch which has very little to offer more than open field hyzers for 2/3 of the course and then 6 somewhat interesting holes at the end.  I'll assume you were just exaggerating because you wanted to make a point about how much you hate the holes across the street in Waukegan.

As far as those holes go, they clearly are not the most exciting holes in disc golf.  But as you said, they make the course 18 holes, and 18 holes is better than 12.  And they do offer a scoring spread between players no matter what division you are in.

Hole 6 is actually a good hole.  A downhill grade makes it reachable for players who can throw 350 feet but there is heavy trouble hugging the right side.

Hole 7 also a good hole.  Reachable for most, but again heavy trouble on the right side and OB with the creek.

Hole 8 is the worst hole.  Probably not reachable for most players especially since the tee was moved back, but an easy 3.

Hole 9 and 10 are not great deuce holes, but do have the elevated baskets which can wreak havoc on a windy day.  These 2 holes are pretty much Holes 1-12 at Antioch in a nutshell!

Hole 11 is probably boring for alot of players as well, but again it has the elevated basket and forces you to make a good upshot.

These 6 holes offer much more variety and challenge than Holes 1-12 at Antioch.  I'll say I would prefer Holes 13-18 at Antioch to replace 6-11 at Bevier.  However, Bevier as a whole is well beyond the Antioch course in the level of fun and challenge provide, no matter what skill level you are at.  I see more and more casual players at Bevier every year since it was expanded to 18.

Has anyone played out at Antioch this year? I live 8 miles away and have not visited there all year.

I played Antioch for the first time earlier this year.  I'm not sure that I will go back even though it is close to home for me as well.  There was a basket missing on 12 or 13.  Looked like it had been torn out of the ground a while ago.

Met the main contact of Antioch at the parks and recreation conference. It's not going to happen over night but a redesign and improvements are in the works. I'm meeting with him next week. Concrete tees pads are in the plans along with other improvments like mowing patterns. DGCR is a great resource. Currently Antioch is ranked 74th of 79 18+ hole courses in Illinois. Hopefully that can get moved to the middle of the pack or possibly. The park contact recognizes this and wants to make drastic changes.
