A 982 rated round from Rec?  Congrats Tony - but good grief!

Chalk that up to a break-out round for Tony.  His rated rounds to date show him to be very close to the cut-off for Rec. . . . but not for long.

Correct, I was at a 874, which I believe is below the cutoff????

Thanks for another great tourney.  Well run and enjoyable as always.  I have been pretty ambivalent regarding the flight life.  After Sunday, however, I think CTPs offer more to the round.  It's fun to look at where the marker is, who's name is in the card, and to have a shot come close.  The flight life was just ... there.  Not a criticism, just my two cents.  Thanks.

Thanks for a great time!  Can't wait for tomorrow!  Just a tip to anyone attending on Sunday, you may want to dip yourself in Off before you come.  I know the mosquitos cost me at least 3 putts.  I think they had  them specially imported from the jungles of Vienam just for the tournament.

This may be the post of the year.

Thanks. The Sunday players were warned in advance of the bloodthirsty varmints.  They seemed to be resistent to any commercial insecticide.  Frankly, the bugs aided in concentration.  More than once I stood facing the basket, stepped back to wipe one away from my face, and stood back up to make the putt.

With fivesomes on 22 holes it was a very long day.  However, it was a very fun day.  I've come to realize that there is a distinct advantage to playing AM IV.  For the time being there are two Brakels in AM IV.  They need to get back to HQ to help with a variety of tournament responsabilities.  I am likely to get paired with them and am likely to get put on one of the first few holes.  This has occurred the past three IOS tournaments and I am not complaining.  This probably saved about a mile of walking.   :)

I think Sunday was a good showpiece for the system you guys are running.  Lippold is a fun course but isn't the sexiest disc golf course in the area.  Yet, 108 players show up for AM day in Crystal Lake.  Something is clearly working here.  North of the Cheddar Curtain its tough to find a Rec pool.  New players, mediocre players and lousy players like me get thrown to the lions and are pooled with 900 rated players in an Intermediate division.  At IOS there are incentives for novice players to get their bag and start chucking discs.  Nice job guys and gals.  The only strange thing is who wins and who doesn't.  In the car going back thee were three of us.  I made the observation that I came in last place in our car.  However, I was the only player in the car who cashed.  It was amusing, but I am not complaining. I am not sure what my car mates would say.  Frankly, they seemed too tired to complain.  As I mentioned, it was a long day.

Round 1 scores are apparently up:
http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6608&year=2007&includeRatings=1#Intermediate

Final results are up also. We had final results up just before awards. We actually had 115 players (1 Advanced rated PDGA player showed up not realizing that his only tournament was rated over 915 so we had him play unsanctioned in the "Expert" division). With 115 players I thought our best accomplishment was turning the leader board after the 2nd round. We completed the turn over and were ready for awards within 30 minutes of the FIRST card coming in and about 15 minutes after the last card came in. Much thanks to Mike Krupika, Scary Mike Pontillo, Adrian Sr, Brett, Becky, Diana, Bruce and anyone else that helped make that happen.

I like to do a mix of CTPs and flight life but with the weather this weekend and the turn out on Sunday, all flight life/most improved was the only real option.

There will always be people shooting way above the Rec rating winning rec. Even if they were all members this would still happen. We are doing as much as we know how to keep the competition fair. If you know something else that we might be able to do, please let us know. There should be ratings bumps coming up for members and non-members alike very soon.

We, the Brakels, had a great time. Once we finally left the course around 8:30pm we made a stop at the Dairy Dream in L'Ville for some family banter and sugar high. Hope to see all of you in Rockford!

Congrats to Tony on his win!

Thanks for letting me play in my own division since I had no clue that my only tournament last year put me at a 932, not allowing me to play Intermediate.  Had a great time in both groups.  I'm happy to play advanced until my true skill shines through dropping me back to intermediate. :)

I wish I could say the mosquitoes were responsible for my mediocre play, but they had nothing to do with it even though they were chasing me around like I owed em money.

Very well run tournament; it was lots of fun!

Finally home.  We stopped at Discraft on the way home and ordered for Rockford.  Now I gotta call Innova and mail out Grip It trophies and call DGA and e-mail Birdie Bags and start dying Rockford trophies.

Jon, Brett, Becky, Mirth, everyone, pre-reg closes on Rockford in 12 days and I need to know what trophies to make.

Brett- do you know what the true distance on #21 was? I had a great rip of a drive know I was not 30 feet short of 550 or whatever the card said.

^^^ I concur with Mike.  I had two great rips, and I had about 150' up shots on both... and I know that I don't throw 400'.  I could see driving close to 300'...

My guess is that it was actually 450'.  Just my guess.

IMHO it was definitely less than 400.  Heath parked it (and I mean PARKED it) in both rounds. He's got a big arm for an INT, but not 450 big.

I max out at around 350, and that's on a good day.  I was around 30 feet short each time.

My vote is for 380ish.

I'm guessing no one had the chance to measure it as it was moved last minute.

We had to change that because of the rain (mud issues with the original basket placement) and we made the hole shorter. I thought we covered that in the player's meeting, but if we did not I appologize. I think we estimated the new hole around 440 feet.

440? Damn, then I guess I can throw over 400 now!

I think I'd have to agree with JR. 380 seems about right.

Tom McManus

I'd say it was around 320' to the base of the hill, to the basket 340' max.

Jon Brakel

I didn't throw it, so I'm sure you guys are right. I was just trying to remember what Brett said.

I was basket long and almost on 176 with a Rogue in the afternoon so I'm guessing it was about 400.  It might have been only 380.  For me it was "Throw all you want.  You aren't going to overthrow the basket."

Yea it was in the 390-410. Most people were throwing short on it in my groups and the groups before/after me. Not a ton short, but short enough to put it at 400 range.

It was mentioned in the players meeting on Saturday when Brett said it played around 400.  I don't recall it being mentioned on Sunday.  I had a super rip as well (was there a blue moon yesterday?) that landed at the base of the hill.  My super rips go 360 tops on a football field (end line to end line).

I think this one is pretty accurate.  Its less than 400 but I think might be over 350.  Krupicka's shot, which was a very good pull, seemed like it was about 325.  In Round 1 I threw one about 250.  I was just under 150 from the basket.  I threw a putter and underestimated the length.  I was about 20 short.  I recall saying that if I did a proper run up I would have been right there.
