I'm not here to 'hijack' the thread but I do want to let people know that the GMO (Greater Milwaukee Open) B-Tier now has CFR Destroyers on hand as well.

The event date is May 17/18.  We will be playing a very challenging Dretzka layout and the only thing to be determined is if the Adv Men will play on Saturday or on Sunday.  Otherwise the Pros are playing Saturday while the Ams are playing Sunday.

Hi Terry:

So it's a split-day tournament, with both rounds both days at Dretzka? The way it's set up on PDGA implies that it's a single two-day tournament.
thanks,
Damon

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

The PDGA site sometimes isn't all that clear.  That might be the fault of the td and it might be a fault of the system.  Either way...I'm looking at this:

ALL Professional divisions compete on Saturday - 2 rounds of intense golf at Dretzka.  27 hole rounds.  Their event is done.

Amateur divisions compete on Sunday - 2 rounds of not quite as intense golf at Dretzka.  27 hole rounds.  Their event is done.

As I mentioned earlier - I just can't seem to place the ADV MEN (MA1) division.  Part of me wants to even out the field sizes and have them on Saturday yet I feel like if you want to talk trash about just how big your gun (and game) are then you could always double dip and play Pro on Saturday then Adv on Sunday.  I am open to creative suggestions for people that want to do that.  The course on Sunday will NOT be as intense as Saturday's course I can tell you that right now.  Long tees and long pins would take 3 days to complete with some ams.

Whenever the Advanced Men do play - they will be playing for spots at the US AM Nationals!

Suggestions?  Thoughts?  Ideas?

For the first time in many years we'll actually have use of the chalet for the GMO.  That was used during Worlds but it's never been used for 'regular' events before.  It will be great no matter what the weather brings us.  I have 2 different logos out there now and there might even be more on the way.

PS - Once I figure out when the Advanced Men will play then I'll submit something that makes it more clear on the PDGA Tour page - thanks for pointing that out.

I would like to see Advanced play on Saturday. That would give some of us the opportunity to play two days.

Dan Michler

If you split Advanced from the rest of the amateur divisions you will get alot more repeat players than if you split them from the Pros.  There are only a couple guys that would decide to play Pro and Advanced, but there are probably 10+ that might play intermed./advanced.  Playing Pro and Advanced is just too much of a financial committment to 1 event for most players.

Sounds like the Discontinuum peeps have spoken on the matter and it all seems to make good sense.  I just needed a little extra push one way or another.

Adv will play Saturday along with ALL PRO divisions.  The next question is:  do they get to play from the super long tees BOTH rounds or just one round?

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Ter

PS - San Marino Rocs with a SWEET GMO stamp should be arriving at my door on Friday the 28th.  Let me know if you are interested in me reserving any for you.  There is a limited supply of them.

Is that because the adv players are as good as the pro players?  If that's the logic then I'd say ... why aren't those adv players playing open?

I do like the idea of the adv playing the long course but at the same time that's a huge benefit to adv players that have big arms (which I think Jason would call himself) and I don't know if that's fair either.  Pros don't have a choice because their pros and they should be playing the toughest layouts.  Advanced on the other hand aren't (allegedly) at that pro caliber yet so I like having one very tough course and then one course that's still just pretty tough.

I'm still up for arguments one way or another.  Let me hear'em guys!

Terry,

I like your thoughts on this. One long and one short would be great. I think if you want to play all longs play pro. But it is your deal. Thanks for continuing to run events and promote DG in the Midwest.

Dan Michler

i like 1 long, 1 short.  mix it up a little.

I am with those above, 1 round super longs and other longs. The course plays difficult with any tee you use. The design of the course allows for the weather, pin placement, foilage (kinda a moot point at this time of year) and player level to all make the course difficult regardless of the tee that you are throwing from. As an advanced player trying to gear up for Worlds this year, I would rather play a course that puts a premium on disc selection and placement rather than just a long arm. This is what I am looking for in a tourney this year. I have a feeling these 2 things will be at a premium this year.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I like the idea of the Adv men playing one round from each set of tees as well.  That seems to be the plan right now.

I did get some important details posted to my registration site for all to view.  I have already sent a message to the PDGA which will help clarify the confusion on the actual PDGA schedule page.

Aaron - was that you in the car pulling into the Oak Creek course on Saturday?  You must have a body double if it wasn't you.

Here are some links to the GMO info:

Sunday:  http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=205

Thank you to everyone that has already bought a San Marino / GMO Roc.  I only have 50 to start with and they have been pretty popular thus far.  I still have some of the GMO / Roc Supporter discs in both Star and Glow.  When you purchase those you are automatically entered into the Roc Supporter Raffle that I'm running which has a grand prize of a free entry into the GMO.

Sure was me Terry. I was up helping my friend move From Peutz rd there to south Milwaukee. I looked at the group and saw a bunch of military guys so figured that you were not part of the group. Interesting course, that one. Lots of putter and Buzzz shots there.

Was gonna play New Berlin, but the pins aren't in until today, so Oak Creek it was.

Hey everyone,

This year's GMO is going to be a good time and it's about 4 weeks away so I wanted to get a thread going here and provide some basic info.  More info can be found on my online registration pages but I will spell some out now:

All professional divisions will compete on Saturday, May 17th along with the  Advanced Men.

All other divisions will compete on Sunday, May 18th.

We are playing  Dretzka Park and only Dretzka Park.  Many of the pins will be in the LONG or SUPER LONG positions.  I am working with Shark right now to finalize the exact locations.  Plenty of you have requested the long tees and pins and now you are going to get them.  Sunday's competitors will see a challenging course but it will not be nearly as long as Saturday's course.  There is a small special "Tarzan" incentive for anyone that wishes to play both days.  Don't be scared!

We are NOT playing other courses such as Dineen or Brown Deer.  Instead, you will play 54 holes in one day all at Dretzka Park.  For the first time in many years we will have the Dretzka Chalet as our event headquarters!  That means we are still taking sponsorship / vendor requests on a limited basis.  For those that attended Am Worlds - you'll see just how awesome it is to have that chalet to use.

Registration fees will go up on Thursday night (May 15th) so please commit to the event early to avoid these fees.  The player's package will include at least a custom event disc and a custom event tee shirt.

As always, online registration is available and if you wish to skip out on the online fee simply subtract $5 from the online amount and mail it in.  I don't care how you pay me - just get it in so you're not shut out.

This is also a United State Amateur Disc Golf Qualifier!

Here are some quick and easy links for you:

Sunday Online Registration

Sunday's Pre-Registration List of Players

As always - feel free to direct any questions to me via e-mail or phone.

Thanks!

When will the drawing be held for the paid entry from the "ROC" sales?

Don't want to have you refund my money  ;D

The plan from day one is has been to have the drawing on the Saturday night of the event.

That means Saturday competitors will still have to pay for the entry just like any other event.  In the case that a Saturday competitor wins the drawing then they will immediately be handed their entry fee back.  If it is a Sunday competitor that wins then I'll present their entry fee back to them sometime on Sunday.

If the GMO Roc Supporter didn't play in the event at all but won the 'grand prize' then I'll find some other appropriate means to compensate them for their win.

When am I going to see you next Serg?  I have a few small gifts for you.

PS - I didn't make any mention of it just yet but we will in fact have a CUSTOM TOM HOLSTEN basket to raffle at this event as well!!!  Pics and details to come soon.

Thanks guys - please sign up for this event right away.

It might not be until the GMO. I'll let you know if I make it to Milwaukee before. I'd like to play Dretzka before the tournament. When will the course be available/in the ground?

Have a busy weekend this weekend and the following weekend we're thinking of a work day here at Parkside.

Shark hasn't made any posting about official dates that he plans to re-install both Dretzka and Brown Deer.  If I had to guess I would say it will likely be after May 1 but before May 15.  Again, that's just an educated guess.  We all know that it's really the weather that will determine when they go back in.

discpro99

Does anyone know if dretzka is in the ground yet? And Terry what is the final verdict on ADV men playing, super long both rounds or 1 of each?
