Just noticed on PDGA.com that the number of points needed to receive an invite to 2012 Worlds was reduced to 500 points for both Open and Advanced.  A lot of people will be qualified for this, so if you are going it will probably be a good idea to sign up sooner rather than later.

are you shittin me?  >:(   I tried so hard to get the 1,000 it usually is, all for nothing? that sucks!
Well, bottom line is that I am going, and know for sure that the invitees get the chance to sign up 1st, so I'm there. But still, could of been saving money instead of hitting these C-Tiers with 4-10 people in the division and wasting time.

If you guys are thinking about going and getting a hotel, I would start looking now. The Democratic National Convention is in Charlotte next year and it's the same weekend as Worlds. Many hotels are already getting booked and some residents are even leaving town for the week to rent out their condos. If you wait until a few months before the event you may not have a place to stay within short driving distance.

I think part of the reason they lowered the points requirement is because they're trying to make this be the first Worlds event to crack 1000 players. They have the courses, now they need the people.

Actually the convention isn't until September but it's still getting booked up early in preparation for it, apparently.

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

What a weekend in Charlotte. It was awesome playing in shorts Saturday. If you plan on playing worlds you better prepare yourself. These are by far the hardest collection of courses that I've played. If you can't keep it in the fairway you'll be busted up. Even without the green foilage these courses are thick and nasty. You'll need everything. You have to be able to throw a midrange long. If you can it's a great tool to attack them. I threw more thumbers, forehands, rollers, etc.. than I did the entire 2011 season. Upshots are a premium on these courses. To score birdies you have to make 2 really good throws and make a putt on many holes. An average or bad throw will add stroke after stroke. There are a ton of holes where you have to hit the landing zone. If you don't the chance of birdie is out of the picture. The greens are just nasty. You better be able to putt up and down. If you can't straddle putt you are in trouble.

Eastway--Good mix. It's one of the more open courses we played. Short tees play par 56. Long tees play par 60.
shorts 5557 ft. Longs 7335 ft.
Elon  Angry Beaver-- Very fun course and difficult. Par 66 that plays 7000 ft. Don't let the first 2 holes fool you. It gets tough.
Elon Eager Beaver --The easiest of the course we played. Short tees play in the 3000 and the long tees play in the 4000. Running to finish before dark and throwing only Rocs and putters I shot a 48.
Hornets Nest-- We played the toughest setup. "Charlotte's Web" layout @  9100' length and a par of 70. It is one of the toughest course that I've ever played. It will demoralize you!  Check out the clash DVD. They played the short layout and were getting beat down. Bring the lube!
Idlewild-- Brand new course with 2 sweet water holes! This course is difficult. Almost every hole plays in the woods. Being new it's thick in there. 5686 ft. Par 58.
Killborne--The new Skillborne layout is fun but tough. The fairways are more forgiving than the other tighter courses. This course is mostly flat.
Nevin-- NASTY!! Just tunnel after tunnel with punishing rough. We played the longest layout. Par 63 7412 ft. –  Par 68 8419 ft  BRING THE LUBE!!!
There are a handul of shorter birdie ops but the par 4's and 5's will just punish you.
Renaissance-- Par 61 to 70. 6091 ft. – 9407 ft. The long layout is just brutal. There is a little bit of everything on this course. Long, short, open, tight, nasty greens. Did I mention nasty greens! Hole 18 is the best finishing hole I've ever seen to the long pin. Sick!  Bring the lube!!!
Sugaw--This is the 2nd easiest course we played. 5520 ft playing as a par 54. It has quite a bit of out bounds near baskets and fairways. You'll have to make shots to play under par. Good mix of open and tight.

From downtown the majority of the courses are 25 minutes or less. Most are a pretty short drive.

Along with the nasty woods they use tons of out of bounds. They take huge metal stakes and drive them deep into the ground. They leave about a foot to 2 feet sticking out of the ground. . They take red duct tape and tape up the tops so you can see them. They do a pretty good job of outlining creek and other areas.  There are a couple of areas where this will come into play at Squaw Creek once that gets going.

I was talking to Robert Leonard last night on Facebook. He's the state coordinator from NC. He said a 3rd party (non dg) is hosting worlds. I found that pretty interesting.

It was posted a couple weeks ago that the company hired to promote the event has also handled the local PGA Tour event in the past.

I've been down to Charlotte twice.  All the courses I've seen there seem like good courses.  Kelsey and I will be playing MA1.   :o

That is an absolutely nasty schedule for MA1. 5 different courses is crazy. Kilborne, Angry Beaver, and Hornet's Nest are all great courses.

I am pumped about the schedule I get to play. Renny is an awesome course. I also like Nevin as it really handcuffs the long throwers. At least I know those 2 courses. It'll give me some time to play Bradford.
