damn willows. wonder what carnage was incurred at the park with the storm last night?

That is a shame. The willow was a cool tree and it gave the hole an identity. Now that its gone the basket may need to be moved. how about behind the big tree  in the middle of the fairway or nestled in the row of trees along the walk towards #2's tee?

mirth

wait, was it the willow to the left of the basket from the tee's POV, or the last one in the line on the right? regardless its a shame to lose such a big tree.

those willows are time bombs tho...

Dunno.  I assumed they were talking about the big one on the right in the middle of the fiarway that makes you go under or around.  Tom, which one was it?

No doubt. We lost the one that was really protecting the basket a couple of years ago and it took out the basket also! We lost a good chunk of the one to the left of the basket maybe last year? That limb just missed taking out the basket again.

At work we lost our big willow in back of our Wheeling building during the storm. Willow trees are not very rugged.

IT WAS THE LAST ONE IN THE ROW ON THE RIGHT :'(

The six holes across the street should be playable by next spring. They have moved the dirt and planted grass. It's started coming in already.

These holes will be open and somewhat long. There will be some rough to the right on the 1st 2 holes. I was hoping to use the rough to the right on the final hole but they would not allow me to put the basket by the woods on the south side of the path.  The elevated green on the 5th hole is very nice. The elevated tee on #6 is pretty high and will be a tough 3 to get when there is a head wind. Things did not work out they way I had drawn them up but it will do. The park district has baskets ready to go. I'm trying to get them to install cement tee pads and tee signs.

Sounds great Brett.  Thank you for all the hard work.  I am looking forward to getting my ass kicked on some new holes around here.

Thursday night's storm did a bit of damage at the park.

The willow directly to the left of #1's basket is gone. It got partially uprooted & WPD came & cut it down. There is a stump for now but I'm sure it won't be there for long. The next nearest willow that has half a trunk is still standing.

Small branches and whatnot down back in the woods. Hole B has had the bridge torn from its anchor and pushed downstream about 15 feet. Its passable but not very stable. Other shule trees were down & 1 dead tree fell over into the fairway. The flooding also made it about 5' from the basket.

We didn't play C today so I can't comment on that hole.

Played Bevier last evening and discovered that some dweeb has trashed the goal on hole #7.

Jon Brakel

That one's been going for a while. I think it got hit by a lawn mower last year and the basket has been loose ever since.

the welds on the basket have been rusting for quite some time & it finally broke loose a couple weeks ago. you can lift the basket back up so it rests on top of the welds.

There is a meeting w/WPD today & hopefully this is one thing that will be discussed.

Well, you guys have restored my faith in humanity.  I'm glad it wasn't vandalism and only the natural progression of things.

Brett & I had a meeting w/WPD this afternoon.

Basket 7 will be fixed soon. They're going to have their welder guy come out w/a portable & reattach the basket.
WPD will try to dig up the old style (small diameter) anchor by hole 1 to use to replace 9's original placement.
Woodchips all around in the woods will happen later this summer once we get a long dry period & the grass stops growing.
Schule on hole 6, 7, and 8 will be mowed down a bit to encourage regrowth of wildflowers & other native plants.
Mowing for additional holes will start this weekend & will be fairways & walking paths similar to Fairfield. Ideally the expansion will be installed by Labor Day. The club may coordinate a workday w/WPD to get the new holes installed.
WPD's going to put hole C back on the mowing schedule. That shit's thick back there!

Is there any chance that we can renumber the course when the expansion is done? It would be nice to have a course that is numbered 1-18. Since the current signs are wood, they could be replaced with a new wooden "plate" to  be screwed in over the existing sign. An alternative method would be to grind off the hole number on the current sign and replace with a wooden plate.

If we had enough helpers, moving numbered baskets would be possible especially if WPD was there with something to tote them around in. I think it would entail moving 4 baskets.

Has the grass started to come in where they did the work?

mirth

some places, yes. other places will need to be reseeded. scott mentioned that could be a potential workdate project for the club and a youth group to help out at.

the grass back in there is very thick tho, possibly worse than the rough at fairfield!
