Played 8 today

175 Element, 174 XS, 174 Wizard

I was even after 8 holes, didn't play hole 9

Slowly throwing harder and harder and putting more of my body into it. I feel like I have so much more control off the tee. Maybe something was really wrong with my technique and now that I'm paying more attention to my feet it's correcting itself?

Dan Michler

maybe u have only played a couple rounds in the last few months and everything is going to your head     thats okay, i have played every week for the past few months and everthing goes to my head too!

It feels alot more smooth and like I have more control of the disc

What's that have to do with thinking? :)

Sigh, I can only imagine what adler was like when it had 18...

fathergod

When it had 18, it was tough to find a better course in Lake County which is why it was used so much.
The day campers is worse now than it was back then.  At least the counselors understood they needed to share the course.

Now a days you have to wait and wait for them to finish playing capture the flag over by 2

I KNOW!  1 time the conselors sent over these 2 random little kids to tell us to skip the hole.  Except thats not what they said.  They said our conselor wants you to play through.  All the while a HUGE game of capture the flag is goin on hole 2.  These kids were just doin what they were told but it was pretty funny.  "play through. play through"  All of them left after like five minutes and it was kinda funna too how long it took them to line up SINGLE file.  Good old adler day camp  >:D
;)

You have to understand that we as disc golfers pay NOTHING to anyone.
The main reason the park did away with the full 18 is because of the pot smokers.  They would go off into the back 9 and smoke.  The police nor the park district could control it so if you really wanna complain about Adler not being as good as it use to be, blame the idiots who think its cool or they have the "right" to disc while getting high. My father has been in Libertyville/Lake County politics for over 20 years and when I ask him to describe disc golfers in one word, he'll say pot-heads.

Next time I'm playing doubles and my partner decides to smoke, I'm walking off the course and demanding my $7 back.  Why?   Because if a cop sees someone in the group doing it, he wont just arrest the smoker but myself also.

If this sounds bitchy, oh well.  If you are one of the pot smokers who took offense to this, be lucky you don't get your ass turned in to the cops

That's the best shit I've heard in years guy...

Better yet, if we match one day I'll just pay your bitchy ass to leave because you really wont
make any friends with that attitude. Yes It happens a lot out there, but no need to go snitching like that.
Nobody likes a tattle tale.

Then I guess I'm one of the few people who don't want to have a partner toke up while in the middle of doubles.
For real, just smoke later or before you get to the park is that so hard?
I would rather put up with 200 day campers and still have 18 holes than 1 day camper and 9 holes.

This league is about introducing disc golf to people and spreading the sport.  How can that happen when we are out there smoking weed?   Why should parks take us serious?  Why should they even build golf courses when they don't make profits from it?

As Brett wrote in a different older post...

Yeah I guess and a coupe others. I'm not here to defend it and the countless people who get hammered drunk on the course either, but it happens. You know how many beer cans I constantly pick up at other courses in the area? Tons! But I'm not out writing posts about it saying how I'm going to call the cops on people.

Maybe you should go save the whales or something worth talking about, or go be a camp counselor...

I totally understand the young age concern with drugs and alcohol. But maybe a better way to voice your concern is to have a talk with the group versus posting up on this site. Barely anyone that goes to Adler for dubs posts on this site. And I bet you if you took that shitty attitude out to the course Tuesday and mentioned the bullshit you stated here, you would feel a bit uncomfortable.

I am pretty sure pot head is two words.  Regarding the opposing opinion by Arok, you don't like a tattle tale.  I don't like guys lighting up in front of league players who are 15 years old.  I am all for keeping dope off the course.  I believe the perception of disc golfer being dope smokers is incorrect, but  the only way to change it is for people  not smoke while on the course.  It shouldn't be that difficult.

I have to agree with Tom having been on the otherside of this argument at least back in the old days we showed allot more discretion .

Why would I feel uncomfortable?     Because people would laugh or get mad at my opinion?   I could care less.   I care about the game and how it is viewed by people who do not play.

What would you say if someone got busted at Fairfield or Beviar and the park district redesigned the course to only have 9 holes?     Wouldn't like it much huh?

The point is this....

It took the game many years to get where it is now.

I remember when it was 18 baskets, sweet course.

If an action is illegal in the park, then it is illegal in the park.
If I am at a course that allows beer, then I can have a beer.
If pot smoking is illegal in the park, then it is illigal in the park.

Easy enough.
Again, it seems as though no one any more wants to be responsible for their actions.

So the kid lights up , you call the cops, and it's YOUR fault that he got busted and disc golfers continue to get a bad rap.

If you are stupid enough to light up in front of someone you do NOT know, you
should go to jail. Dumba$$.

And if you light up in front of a minor, you can  add comtributing to ethe deliquency of a minor cahrge as well.

I think that you have a right to point out that their actions make you feel unconfortable and
that you are there to play doubles not party.

there's my 2  cents
but in this economy
its only really worth 1

[edited] because the course did not get changed from 18 to 9 because of smoking and if his familly has been in lake county politics for 20 yrs they pulled it because they added to the pool area put in the warming hut for the sled hill and the lake county forest preserve added the des plaines river trail [edited]

P.S if you are going to bust the pot smokers you also should bust all the people that drink at the park and smoke cigerettes because that technicly is against the law at adler to [edited]

[Chris, this post was just going to incite a fight...please keep your cool]

Jon Brakel

The original 9 hole Adler with the cones was the first permanent disc golf course that I ever played. When they added the back 9 to make it an 18 hole course it was the first 18 hole course in Lake County. I believe it was the only 18 hole course in Lake County for the entire time it was in the ground.

The 18 hole course was a really good course in its day. With the plastic we had to throw at the time and the level of play in the area it was a very fun course. If it were still in the ground today it would be 14 of the lamest disc golf holes in the area. It would have to be completely redesigned to be fun...unless you played with big lids.

The 18 hole course was not pulled because of trash, or drugs or anything else having to do with the players. I know because I personally spoke to the parks director at the time. He told me that the biggest concern was public urination. However he said that if they were pulling the 18 baskets because of concern of the players behavior then they would not be putting a 9 hole course back in. The reason they pulled it was because of the construction of the bicycle trails, the multi-use building with the bathrooms, the pavilion on what was fairway 1, the sand volley ball courts on what were fairways 2 and 3 (not sure if those are still there) and the new tot lot by formerly fairways 8 and 18. They also were aware that the course was becoming too short and easy for the new plastic and level of play (they had a couple of players on their staff). They hired a firm to design the course and I think they made a pretty good 9 hole course out of what was left of the available playing area.

When in a public park I think a good rule of thumb is to behave the same way as if you were playing in the back yard of your friend's grand parents. That would work for most people.

And where did you get this information from?

For your information, the warming house, pool, and trail were designed after they decided to remove the 18 holes because of the weed smoking in the back 9.  Havent you noticed that most of the 9 holes are out in the open now or have easy access for a police officer to ride his bike down the paths?

I don't agree with the rules about drinking of alcohol and smoking of nicotine but those are FINABLE offenses and the only one who gets hurt by it are the OFFENDERS!   If you are standing with a group with people who are smoking weed, you ALL can get arrested.

If you don't want to stop smoking weed in the park or pick up the trash while playing then you really can't be called a disc golfer.  You are a chucker because you play for recreation and not give a damn about the sport
