I've got 3 rolls of film ready to be loaded onto the site. Just takes a lot of time adjusting resolution, color levels, etc. And that's just from our morning photographer. I'll be receiving the main batch of images today or tomorrow (the ones available on CD).  I'll be giving a preview of the CD at the club meeting this Sunday if you are interested.  Sunday after Best Shot @ 1pm at Pizza Hut on Lewis and Sunset in Waukegan (2 mins away from Bevier).

Good suggestions.  I'm waiting for Scott McLean to call me back to: (a) confirm that they now have the 3 baskets, and (b) set two or three dates for prep work, installation, and finalization.

I'm going to ask Shabu (Craig Shaub) if he can make a plaque to atttach to one of the baskets. It only needs to be about 4" x 3" and can fit on the outside of the basket or at the bottom of the pole. it will read simply: "Have FUN!!! - this basket donated by discgolfworld.com"   That was Rick's only stipulation is giving us a basket.

I will definitely post these cleanups better with as much lead time as possible.

I spoke with Scott McLean at the WPD today. He said that they'd work more on the new Holes A, B, and C when the weather got better and when the baskets come in. He promised that everything would be complete before June.

he said nothing about the tree-trimming though......

jim

I am VERY excited about these 3 new holes! I spent a lot of time thinking, thowing, surveying, and rethinking Hole A.  I really like it, but it is too short. Moving the teepad back is the best option; if we move the basket farther away from the tee (farther East), we get too close to the fairways for Holes 7 and 16.  Moving the tee back allows for a great turnover shot or a long straight shot as well.  there will be a small (teeny) window for a big hyzer too.  I've done a lot of work (about 12 hours true work time) on this hole, removing stumps, moving logs, lining up larger sticks, etc.

The same will need to be done for Holes B & C.  Especially B.  We will also need to clear a path to walk across the creek between Hole C and Hole 9.  The WPD will move a few boulders into the creek as a natural bridge (they'll do this when they put the baskets in).

I will be talking to Scott McLean this week and meeting with him again soon to talk about specific cutting/removal we need them to do.  The 3 new holes will add distance, woods, and more challenges to the current layout.

What we need from club member is HELP!!!  When we schedule some dates to do this work, we need folks to get out and help!

jim

What time will you be at Bevier on Wednesday? I will make sure I get them to you somehow unless Brett sees you first.

jim

Shawn, I can't find your phone #. Have you already gone out to Bevier?

If not when will you be there? I can meet you later if needed.

Call me at work or home .......

jim

calk, chalk, peter falk, whatever......

yes, shawn, let me know how much you need......

jim

Yes, I just measured it and have exactly 30 feet of chain total. If we don't hook up before I leave for Standing Rocks, Kirsten knows where it is. Just call and drop by to pick it up, but maybe we can hook up tomorrow somewhere. What time do you get out of school? Do you have a game? Call me at work in the morning if you can.......

jim

I'll be dropping off the chain with Mirth (or Brett today).  I will also leave some $$$ for more chain if you think you'll need it right away. Lemme know ASAP.

jim

I am leaving the 30' of chain with Mirth.

Regarding the chain, instead of doing multiple drop-offs and pick-ups, I'll just drop it off at Shawn's house early Friday am on our way up to Standing Rocks. I'll just leave it near your garage or truck, so as not to wake up you or Carolyn. OK?

jim

Yes I Be!

I'll drop it off with Shawn. I meant to private email you, but forgot in my hurry to get to the County Recorder of Deeds to finalize the incorporation. Sorry. I'll be dropping the stuff off around 4pm today.

jim

Thanks for doing the chains, Shawn & Craig!!!

I just called Mike Trigg and left him a message about Basket #1.  Info to come . . . . .

jim

I say we ask for a whole new basket to match the other 7 (#5 is still different).

Then we can raffle off the wounded basket at the Widdershins!!!

Shawn, how much does the club owe you?

jim

#5 was the other oddball.

I spoke with Mike Trigg last night and he said that the WPD is VERY busy and prob will not have time or manpower to replace the basket soon. He also said he HOPES to get the 3 new baskets in before the Widdershins.

This was disheartening.

I will call Scott McLean and get the real scoop from the guy who's doing all of the labor. I will also call back Mike and really push for getting the 3 baskets in ASAP as well as replacing #1 before the event. I am planning on pushing hard because this stuff was supposed to be done LAST month.

PLEASE email Mike Trigg at:

mtrigg@waukeganparks.org

and let him know you are EXPECTING those 3 baskets NOW and also that replacing #1 is VERY important (and that we can use it as a practice basket).

EMAIL HIM TODAY!!!

jim

I spoke with Scott McLean of WPD this morning. Mike Trigg is Scott's boss, but Scott is handling all disc golf course work. HE says that we can order a new top for crushed basket #1 today and bill the WPD.  I will do that this morning.

The 3 new baskets have been recieved by WPD and they've already attached collars and anchors and sunk them in concrete. However, he says they might not have time to put them in the ground. He says WE can pick up the baskets at the WPD and put them in the ground ourselves. The sooner the better. So, I'm going to try to do this Saturday morning.

Brett or Shawn: I know the Round Lake work day is tomorrow, but if I can get one of you to help me simply get the baskets from WPD to Bevier around 7-7:30am tomorrow, before RL work begiins, that would be a tremendous help! I can dig and sink myself, but would miss RL work.

Opinions? Other truck volunteers?

jim

Just talked to Rick at DGW. The price for just the top assembly is $200. Wow. So, I grew a pair and ordered a whole new Mach 5, minus anchor and collar (we can use the existing ones). The bashed basket will not go in as a practice basket. Period. Per Scott and Mike.

That's OK. We just got chain upgrades and we're sinking 3 new baskets. We can work on a bulletin board next and practice basket later this year or next year. The club can vote on what we will do with bashed basket.

with a little luck and some hard work from our members, we can make Bevier in GREAT shape by June 7th!!!

PLEASE check your schedules for the next 3 weeks and try to devote a few hours to course work. We CANNOT cut down trees (WPD will do that within next 1.5 weeks), but there is a lot to clean up on Holes B & C (some on Hole A). I will devise a detailed plan on what needs to be done on each hole. PLEASE make it out whenever you have time and do some work.

Primarily:

-Clean tee and basket areas on new holes

-Remove stumps or dangerous tree roots

-Remove garbage and small sticks

-Move and organize large sticks, dead branches, and misc rocks

THANKS for any help you can give - it WILL make a difference!!!

jim

All new baskets, including the replacement for #1, are being paid out of the $3,400 Callahan donation fund, being managed by WPD.

Brett, can you help me pick up the baskets early Saturday before Round Lake work starts? I figure it will take us about a 1/2 hour. If we get there right at 7am, you could make it back to RL no later then 8:15.

Will you have time? Please let me know today. THANKS!!!

jim

DIScontinuum members are EVERYWHERE!

While Brett and Jon were out at Fairfield, Paul, Chud and myself were sweating at Bevier.

Hole A: Nearly complete. Hole for basket is dug. We moved it as well - 75 feet to the left of where it was. This makes it a righty hole (dog-left), but not easy, even though it is still fairly short. We raked partial fairway and green. All major crap is cleared.

Hole B: Not nearly complete. This hole will require much more work. Hole for the basket has been dug. The tees need to be created (once the WPD clears the fairway) and much wood/dead branch moving must be done. There is a small pseudo-island where the fairway cuts left into the green. Today, we made two make-shift bridges (which the WPD may not allow to stay) and cleared and raked the basket area. This will be a long, tough, and well-guarded hole. The pro tee will be monsterous by Bevier standards. When done, it will be a very fun and tough hole, especially for lefties.

Hole C: We cleared the green better and improved the path leading to the other creek-crossing to get to the 9th tee. We also dug the hole for the basket. We still need to make the tees and line the fairways (plenty of big branches and logs available). This one is also near completion.

Please be available next weekend - Saturday morning around 9am - to help to get these holes into shape. THANKS - anyone who can help is needed!

jim

We will need 1 shovel and at least 1 more rake. I will post as to when we can pick up the baskets from the WPD's warehouse.

Also, bring some garbage bags.

I'll supply some soda & water for those who show up. THANKS!

jim

Good!  On Saturday, making the tees for Holes B & C will be important. I have a hand axe, but another might help if we encounter tons of roots and stumps.  I have a call into Scott Mclean (WPD) to see when they're going to get out and clear B's fairway.
