OK, sorry for beating everyone over the head with this one, but

PLEASE HELP AT BEVIER TOMORROW, Saturday, August 23rd.

We needump on this NOW, because Scott McLean (from WPD) said he'll be out there on Monday to put all that extra wood through the chipper (Holes A, B, C) and install Basket B.

Mike Trigg has also informed me that the fieldhe at Bevier is no longer available for rentals or usage such as we have had been using it for. However, he said we can negotiate because we claimed it back in January.  PLEASE come out if you can. YOUR help WILL mean a lot! Be a part of improving  disc golf in your area!

jim

Sorry, bad typing.

The  fieldhouse (building).

The WPD is now offering a certified pre-school/daycare thang. New program. Takes precidence over most everything else. No longer a public-accessible facility, except for the bathrooms on the outside/northside of the building.

But Mike Trigg did say we'd talk about it after Labor Day. My issues with this are:

-convenience/professionalism

-computer/printer/food

-less chance of non-golfers strolling in and either stealing something or creating a nuisance

But after talking about it with a few club members and thinking through some logistics, we can make it work without the building (but I don't like it one bit). The patio tables (mini-shelters) just outside the building do have electricity and we can put up some tarps on the sides for wind blockage. but if it is raining, i would insist that at least some of our equipment (laptop, etc.) be utilized indoors without other opening it up to players.

I looked last night on the way home from Parkside and there's a ton of stuff in there.  but I will be talking to Mike after Labor Day (setting up meeting for me, Brett, whomever). So, if you have any suggestions, lemme know.

jim

Chud and I got out for another hour this afternoon and polished up "B" some more. We added a third tee, the Am tee Brett and Adrian suggested yesterday. We also added a couple of signs directing folks to the next hole.

The bridge is DONE! Painted green and well reinforced! Wow! The WPD should sink the basket tomorrow. With luck, they'll clear all the debris we generated over the past few weeks.

jim

Nine hours of hard work have created a new hole!

Adrian, Al G., Brett, Chud, Jon, and myself accomplished so much, I can't believe it! Adrian's bridge is huge, strong, and secure! We also secured the bridge in back of Hole C, cleared out all 3 of C's teepads, relined some walkways, and completely cleared B's fairway AND green.

THANKS SO VERY VERY VERY MUCH for all the help!!!  Brett's correct; this hole will make or break you into little quiverring pieces of noodle-armedness.

Did I say the bridge rocks?!?!!

jim

Monday, 7:30am.

Just spoke with Scott from WPD. No basket today. They are putting concrete in a bucket today and will sink the hole later this week.

He tells me that a crew just left to remove debris and spread woodchips on holes B & C.  I'll get out there late afternoon/early evening to survey what's what.

jim

Brett told us what was up, so Chud, Adrian, and myself surveyed the damage. The WPD bobcat made some ruts which also need to be levelled. The B3 needs to be redone since the bobcat threw so much stuff around.

I agree with all of Brett's recommendations for A, B & C. Chud and I (and Brett?) will pick up the basket for B on Thursday and sink it ourselves. We'll also do some of the other work, but I'd like for everyone to put in a few hours again this Saturday (except for those lucky Northwoods fellas).

BEVIER WORK DAY

Saturday August 30th

7am - 12noon

Meet at Hole B

jim

groovy

THANKS!

What happened to Northwoods?

jim

yep

i thought were were going up there fer a week, which I assumed would include the Northwoods Open this weekend.

PLEASE READ:

Sometime last night or this morning, Basket "C" was removed. Wide, deep tire tracks indicate a truck was down there. A bunch of dead grass was also dumped on/near C's fairway. Nothing else was touched as of 7pm tonight.

I do not now if this was theft, or if the WPD took it for some reason without alerting us. But signs point to theft.

I left a message with Scott McLean (WPD) and will call again in the morning to confirm/report this. I will ask for a police report to be made with tire tracks possibly used as evidence.

IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, PLEASE POST IT OR TELL A CLUB MEMBER IMMEDIATELY.

PLEASE!!!

This is so serious that, if it was theft, I will make sure no more baskets are installed at Bevier. THREE baskets have been stolen in FOUR years! I don't see basketball backboards being ripped off. Who else would steal it except a disc golfer? That makes me sick.

I am personally offering a $100 reward for the person who offers information to us, the WPD, or the police which leads to either an arrest or return of the basket. I can identify the basket without a doubt.

PLEASE do the right thing and report anything you might know. So many people have given up personal time, sweat, and cash to put these holes in the ground. Please don't disrespect the efforts of we who work so hard to give EVERYONE more disc golf pleasure.

jim

Theft confirmed.

WPD says they did not take it.

WPD says they will not replace it or claim it on insurance, since the value is less than $1000.

WPD is as disgusted as I am.

Members and friends, please join me in the search for the basket and the thief. THERE IS A $125 REWARD FOR  INFO WHICH LEADS TO THE ARREST OF THE THIEF OR THE RETURN OF THE BASKET.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Dear Thief, if you play disc golf and I can access your name and address - anywhere in the surrounding 100 miles - we will be checking you out. Be afraid, because you will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. You will be sued by the WPD and by DISContinuum.  You will never be welcomed at another course as long as you breathe.

Stop this hurtful, expensive stealing. Bring back the basket this week and we'll forget about it. You have until this Friday.  What you might think is a small, cute, fun act of theft is threatening the potential for expanding disc golf in the area. I know I do not want to put in any more baskets, just so you can add them to your personal or favorite course.  You are causing So MUCH inconvenience, and you are costing people money.

jim

Great idea, mikey!  Thanks for your support!

We can create a page strictly for donations to the club with paypal, but let me check out legalities first.  I need to check to make sure that donations in this form are tax deductible. Jay, I will pm you later about this.

And yes, this thief will regret his actions. Once caught, we will make an example out of him so as to deter future theft.

Also, if anyone plays Adler, Fink, Danny Cunniff, or other area courses and happen to see a new basket, PLEASE contact me immediately @ office@discontinuum.org. Thanks!

jim

Thanks Diron! Until it is recovered, would everyone PLEASE keep eyes and ears open.

Yes, Mirth, this Saturday, we will resink A, B, and maybe C. However, I am currently of a mind NOT to replace C until just before the Blast, but that's just anger talking.

We have been authorized by the WPD to use as much concrete as we want, as well as rebar.

Once again, I am asking people to sacrifice a Saturday to help out. what would have taken 4 hours will now take all day at least.  BASKET THEFT SUCKS!

jim

jim

yes, please email indiana newsgroup. THANKS!

It is a new silver Mach V, no number plate.

there is a minor ID on basket.

jim

Although I am VERY relieved that disc golfers didn't steal the basket, I'm still angry and frustrated with the incident.  I will call Rene, who lives 1.5 blocks away from Bevier and has a view of the park, I believe.  He'd be happy to keep an eye out.

I left two more messages with Scott McLean about this issue.  The WPD may or may not tell the police. The WPD will NOT claim the basket on insirance because it is not worth at least $1000.  The WPD has no immediate plan to replace the basket.

The old Basket #1 was rewelded by Kevin. Looks great!  THANKS KEV!  We will use that for "C" and the new basket for "B".

THIS SATURDAY, we will be doing as much work as we can. We will:

-dig up "A"

-resink "A", "B", and "C" with more concrete and deeper

-groom fairways for ABC

-cut stumps on A/C

-remeasure ABC

-spread woodchips on ABC

-put up as many ATV blockades as possible, esp near baskets B/C

-clean the creekbed

-maybe add another pin placement for Hole 9, short of the creek

PLEASE come out on Saturday if you can. This will be the most major, but last, Bevier work day of the year.  Please make it if you can.

Bring:

rakes, buckets, gloves, shovels (the bigger the better)

chainsaw, weedwackers, extra gas

THANKS!!!

jim

so far:

Jim Adrian Chud Paul Brett Mirth Jon Becky Danny(?)

more please please please please

I will check w/Adrian to see if/how much concrete he's bringing

jim

BTW, thanks for finding the basket!  I walked around back there for a while before I interrogated soccer players to see if they saw anything, but never saw metal.  Good eyes! You must have been playing "Ludicrous C"!

jim

Yeah, the WPD doesn't want to permanently move basket 9 because it would invalidate the legend/map at Tee 1.  However.... Brett had an idea about adding another pin placement in front of the creek between the two birch trees. We could move the pin for leagues and tourneys, then move it back to the original placement when done. The map would still be correct, but we'd get what we want.  I'll run it by the WPD this week.

jim

Bevier Work Day:

Adrian is bringing at least 4 bags of 'crete. and some rebar.  Holes ABC will be very difficult to remove after that.

If you're coming and you have a shovel, please bring it.

We're also painting the bulletin board at tee 1 white and updating all flyers then.

We're also possibly painting the bridge behind Basket C.

Lots of work, so please come early.  I can bring water and pop /or/ coffee.  Which will y'all prefer?

Brett, can you please stop by the Park District off of Sunset and pick up the new basket tomorrow morning?  chud and I will be bringing the re-welded basket in his van.  if you cannot, please let me know ASAP.

THANKS!!!

jim

Just spoke with Mike Trigg.  we can add an alternate pin placement on Hole 9!  We will get together next week to discuss the Blast and 2004.  I will post time and date of mtg later.
