what we need to do is bust out some skill shots and set them up in grant park at about 5 am and play as soon as it gets light.

Step in Right Direction...Meigs Field 18 or around Soldier Field (WINDY CONDITIONS) Better than Grant Park. To my Knowledge there is not One Basket in the City of Chicago.

today i got off my lazy butt and i called cook co  forest preserve

i was told that the person i needed to talk to was out of town til a week from monday  :(

would the club consider coming down and running an event ? (ice bowl)

or should i talk to the joliet guys or the IN guys ?

the other question is liability      whats the deal with the clubs insurance

if someone can make heads or tails of the cook county site

explain it clearly to me

here is a link
http://www.fpdcc.com/tier3.php?content_id=...=picnic_permits

i would like a simple answer to the question

how can we/I introduce disc golf to this area  ?

right now the object course is short/righty hyzer course (beginner)
it can be expanded and designed to be more difficult

i consider this the first step (kinda bummed that the person i needed to talk to wasnt available)

The club's insurance policy would satisfy their liability needs, and covers us whereever we run events - its not tied to any specific venue.

We'll probably need to up our coverage next year to cover higher numbers of participants, but thats no biggie.

Would the forest Preserve ever be willing to put up baskets?

I think some of the wooded areas near me would be very adaptable for disc golf.  I rode my bike past the area just north of Glenview Rd and south of Lake St. to the west of Harms Rd. and thought a course could go there.  I do not know if they would consider such a thing.

airspuds

im sure they would NOT want permanent as
it does get heavy use during the summer on the weekends

the rest of the time i think its open

i usually dont go here on the weekends so its hard to say
how many people are there

chain  - is that cook county ?

mirth - would you be availble/willing  to discuss this with whoever i eventually get ahold of - obviously it would not be until after nov 1 ?

i think i have several people who owe me favors so manpower
for one day wouldnt be a problem

depends on what the proposal is. if you're talking ice bowl then possibly. we've been talking about an ice bowl for next year, like early feb, but if we want it to be something more than an extension to leagues then plans need to start getting laid down.

Yeah, Its Cook County.  I thnk Dan is right.  I know the area north of there is Blue Star and this area might be so as well. The area I was thinking about is away from the main picnic areas.  However, I have seen Boy Scouts camping there before. It just galls me that there is nothing from Spuds' object course on the southside all the way up to Glencoe. This might be because I am old enough to have played on a tremendous course in Gillsen Park in Wilmette that was destroyed by the NIMBY {not in my back yard} attitude of the locals. OK...check the rainy day rant...

skokie division
bluestar memorial woods
there is a map

i assume that the same procedure would have to be followed
to run an event at bluestar as wood dan ryan

same hoops so to speak

chain - have you ever walked/mapped out a course here

hows the bike riding in the area  single track or cement

heres a map of the dan ryan  course would go/ is in red area

hopefully headed out there sunday  10/24 (not sure what time)
with some local players to test their opinion and the course
i will be carrying  the ching skil shot for every hole
or carting it (going to check that out right now - since it cleared up)

hopefully i can get 2 or 3 out to play

The bike riding in the area is a nicely paved path that goes from Devon and Milwaukee (right near the famous SuperDawg) all the way to the Chicago Botanic Garden.  There are some single track trails near the Skokie Lagoons a few miles north of the area that I described and just off the same paved path.

I have never mapped out a course other than the trees in my neighborhood when I was a kid--Next hole from the Singer's Driveway to the Maple in front of the Adler's house etc.

Weather should be nice tomorrow.  (its better now today...see, ranting over) I hope you get some turnout.  I am going up to Bevier as it will be a rare Sunday when I have the time to play with the league.  If you are ever able to get something going in Dan Ryan, count me in.

By the way, how do you like the Ching?  I have a spot in my backyard that seems like it wants a basket.

airspuds

i got a ching and a updated tri state

the thing with the skil shot is the portability of it
it fits in the trunk and will set up anywhere

im just going throw it on a golf pull cart to save some hassel of
carrying it the whole time

not sure if i will be throwing (i hurt my shoulder moving my buddy last week -
played volley ball last night and its sore

still i could try throwing left handed or all chicken wing
i want to make sure i dont screw up shoulder for long time
as i play disc throughout the winter and the volley ball league still has
several wks left
