I got a call about this course in January. Not sure if it's going in or not. Not sure where it will be.

This is from http://dnr.state.il.us/pubaffairs/2006/October/OSLAD_North.html

(D) ANTIOCH TOWNSHIP (Lake County) $400,000, to develop 27 acres at the Tim Osmond Sports Complex on Depot Street in Antioch. Phase I development consists of two football fields, one softball/baseball field, an 18-hole disc golf course, a playground, shelter, and a parking area.

I think the park is located here http://preview.tinyurl.com/2jgd6c

It's going to be some time until the course goes into the ground.Yes, there is going to be a course there.  I called the township and the parks & recreation and they provided me with minor details. They ended up giving me a name of someone I had spoken to in the past. The park is in the intial phase. Earth movement will be taking place in the next few months. This guy is going to call me when they have the exact area that may be used for disc golf. It will be a multi use area with some other ball fields.  I'm hoing to give some input into the design and he said he'd call when the disc golf area was identified.

Sounds like it will be a tight 18 holer.  Don't you need about 30 acres to develop a decent 18 holes?  It sounds like there will be about 20 acres available for the course.

CEValkyrie

I visited this site today and have exchanged some e-mails with the developer. I am going to assist with the design. They are a long way from being done as earth moving is still taking place. The plan is to meet in late August or early September. The front part of the park has some really nice land but the rest of the area is completely flat & open. I'm not sure what the plans are and will know more in the future.

Sounds like the park is finally open (although not done). Anyone know if the disc golf course is up? They said it's in the first phase of the park construction.

jsun3thousand

I called the parks department today and they said it is not in the ground. They are working on it and it should be ready some time next month. Jason

Awesome! I can't wait. Thanks.

This has been discussed in the club members only section for a while. If you want to read more and are club member that does not have access PM Mirth to gain access.

To make a long story short Tom S. & I did the best we could the day we visited with the developer. He wanted to pound stakes immediately with no thought involved. On the fly we did our best to come up with some decent holes. After that day I spent the night thinking about the course and came up with a design. Tom M. & I went out there and marked the course.

Attached is a map that I proposed to the developer. I'm hoping he changed the design and used this.
I'll have to try again at home tonight. It did not work from school.

Doesn't look too bad given what you had to work with. I'm only concerned with holes 16 and 17 running along side the road. Are the trees thick enough to catch any discs that decide to grow a pair of wings and fly away?

CEValkyrie

There is a thick wall of trees down the road.

This course would immediately be better than anything in Lake County. That's not saying much though. I am keeping my fingers crossed though. I have no idea what the final layout is.

Holes 3, 4, & 11would be true par 4's.

The landfill adds some nice elevation. Holes 7 thru 11 would be much tougher than they look. Hole 7 would be a nice uphill shot and very tough to reach for average power arms. #8 is a long downhill bomb as well as #11.

Holes 12 thru 17 would be a nice technical section that has some nice terrain.

Ah, so it's a lot longer than it looks. Hard to see elevation changes from the top too. Glad to hear it! Too many flat courses around here.

Defintitely longer than it looks. It would be an under par course for most Adv/Pro players with a par of 54. Wind would be tough out there.
Holes 3, 4, & 11would be over 600ft.
Holes  8, 9 & 18 are easily 350+
Holes 6, 7, 17 would play over 300ft.
