On the registration page they are told they will have to pay $5 on the day of the event provided that the sanctioning was approved.

WPD has officially nixed the moving of Basket #9.  Why? Because their map/legend at Tee #1 would then be wrong.  They see that as a priority over safety (not usual for WPD).

I will work on it more, with help from other members.

In the meantime, for the Blast, we will rope off an area between Basket #9 and the soccer field, just in case casual soccer players gather there.  But I am expecting no conflicts.

If there isn't a problem with soccer according to the PD, then I think we should resume playing hole nine for all leagues and events.

Is this PDGA sanctioned? Can Kevin Lenth shoot Am?

I don't think Kevin has a PDGA rating yet, so there's nothing stopping him from playing Intermediate Am.

Jon,

I think they have games every Saturday & Sunday. I would love to resume play on #9 but it's such a pain in the butt. There have been tons of people haning out by #9 basket. Also, some kid threw Bingmans firebird in the water too. I don't want that to happen.

But there's no problem with keeping the basket where it is according to the PD. Hit some kid in the head? NO PROBLEM! Knock some fisherman into the pond? NO PROBLEM! Some kid throws Bingman's disc into the pond? NO PROBLEM!

(okay, I MIGHT be a little bit disgruntled)

Becky was going to register in the next day or two, but the flyer and on-line info price list does not specify what divisions you are running for women. It just specifies the prices for jr, rec, int, adv, etc.

What am women's divisions are being offered?

Maybe I answered my own question. Each registration option has a "women" option. So all women's divisions are available, apparently.

In that case, which division(s) will you have a trophy/plaque for? Or aren't you doing trophies/plaques? I can't remember. I'm assuming you will run a minimum of one Am Women's division even if you don't get 3 registered, would that be correct (as long as you get at least one, of course)?

[standing up on soap box]

You don't have to run a division if you advertised that you wouldn't run it, or if you don't get 3 people attending. I run at least one am women's division no matter what to reward the woman or women who do show up. This at least builds the start of a player base. Becky wouldn't be competitive in Adv or Int. She might be competitive in Rec depending on how many truly rec players there are. Her rating would allow her to play in any non-age protected division.

Women know that Gary will run at least one women's am division at all of his tournaments, so they know they can show up and play. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't.

The problem with not running women's divisions at all is that then whatever women or woman you had, probably won't show up next time. Payouts are not demeaning as long as they are based on the pay-in. Becky won a trophy and two discs at the Midwest Open where she was the only Sunday woman. Becky was fine with that payout. It was close to what she had paid in.

If you want to help build a women player's base, giving them a divsion to play helps. They won't come if there isn't a division for them.

[getting off soapbox now--it was really more like a liquid detergent bottle anyway]

I can't wait for the Blast! After doing all the work we did it'll be great to play those holes in a tournament.

QuoteJim (09-08-2003 01:51 p.m.):

As for opening up an Am Womans division, your soapbox jibberish makes sense, especially after relating Becky's story in the IO. I did not know she was a division.

Question/Scenario:

Say we do open up an Am Womens div, and only Becky shows up.

Then SallyJo shows up and asks us to open up a Pro Womens div. Do we?

What if BobbiSue then shows up and wants a Womens Rec div opened up.

Do we accommodate all as requested?  I understand that their entry fees would be their payout base, so we wouldn't lose any money, but is that SOP for sanctioned-events?

Just wondering.

My goal (all of ours, I'm sure) to to accommodate all players and to attract more women players. Will doing this have any adverse effect?

My soapbox jibberish made sense? That sentence was so funny I won't even try to figure out if I should be insulted. :)

Until you have enough Am women to make one division, I wouldn't think about adding another Am women division. And this is allowed and expected. As for the pro side, I'm not sure if I have a strong opinion. I ran a pro woman division for the Illinois Open for Barrett White. I would do that again if she's the only pro woman who shows up. She said she had a great time and thanked me both in person after the tournament and with a follow-up e-mail. So, I think she appreciated that I ran the divsion even though a divsion didn't show up. Unless Barrett says she is coming I think you can pretty much assume that you won't have any pro women at an Illinois c-tier event, so you don't really have to worry about that SallyJo girl. :)

Becky was fairly certain last night that she would be registering in the next two days. I don't think you'll see any other Brakel women here for it though.
