My latest copy of Dr. Dobb's is only 4 signatures and it's using a perfect binding.

It's probably gotten less expensive since I was a printner.

The break even mark on number of tourneys for a PDGA membership to payoff was just cut in half.

From Peter Shive on the PDGA MB

QuoteIt [PDGA non-member tourney fee] was tabled in September, but at the October teleconference we raised it to $10, to take effect as of January 2008.

.... might be time to advertise entry fees as '$10 discount for PDGA members' instead of '$10 more for non-members'....
thanks,

The glass is half empty interpretation of that is that more TD's will run lower divisions as non-sanctioned.  :(

i am a dues paying member of the pdga
i think its a small amount to support the organization
i like the magazine - i m looking forward to see the new one

i know most courses are local efforts but this is the organization that governs the sport
(lets not get into a pdga board discussion here)

most players at a tournament have spent 50 bucks on a bag and at least 100 bucks on discs
so why not support the sport

it should be a perfect christmass gift from the inlaws for most

But the glass is half full interpretation of that is more lower rated PDGA members will play the IOSeries because they have fewer sanctioned tournaments to play.   ;)

I think that was an economically naive decision by the Board.

How to stir the pot unintentionally..
I wrote the following about the increase on the PDGA MB.
QuoteI can see some TDs no longer sanctioning their lower divisions because of this.
Mainly my thought was for split day tourneys...

One response I got was:
QuoteI am truly unaware that a TD may run certain divisions as non-sanctioned within/along the side at a PDGA sanctioned event........

I'm interested to see where it goes. (This is on the Ask Peter Shives thread).

Yes, you can join there or on PDGA.com.

If you plan of playing a handful of events next year it will be worth it. The nonmember fee of $5 per event is going to $10 per event next year.

Is the magazine opt-out an option or was it just a thought? The application has a title of 2007, not 2008. Am I missing the 2008 form somewhere?

I enjoy the magazine but Carla and I don't need two at the house...although we do have two bathrooms ???

I purchased through the discontinuum store.. Now i assume i wait for a packet in the mail from the pdga with my number, etc....?

Is there anyway to avoid paying the extra five bucks in tourney play until you get the info, or is it easier to just avoid the headache and pay the measly 5 bucks...

tell the TD at the events you play until your number is issued (typically 7 days or so after I submit it to the PDGA) that you recently joined and don't have a number yet. you should be okay.

Print out the confirmation from the store that you paid and bring it with you in case they give you trouble.

If you are in the Wheeling area you could get a soft card from me. Otherwise like Mike said just print the confirmation and show it to the TD.

Chris, I sent your membership thru to the PDGA today. I'd expect them to issue your number by this time next week & the membership packet should follow 7-10 days after that. If you haven't seen/heard anything by the 7th let me know & I'll contact PDGAHQ.
