I thought I would be a good son and make a nice pot of meaty chili and invite the folks over to watch some football tomorrow.  I went and got the ingredients this morning.  Here's the problem.  I saw Sweeny Todd this afternoon. I am not sure I am up for it.  I am also thinking of growing a beard.

That being said, I laughed the whole time. It was bloody and sometimes hard to watch.  Helena Bonham Carter was amazing. If you like dark humor and appreciate Tim Burton's visual style, this is a good one.  I suggest a vegetarian dinner if you are having dinner and a show.

Or just embrace it full on and have meat pies!

Death Sentence.  Not horrible.  Depressing with alot of killing and drags on a little long though.

Beerfest.  Same dudes as Super Troopers.  Not nearly as funny as Super Troopers, but still had some funny parts.

Breach.  Pretty good.

Invasion.  Basically a zombie movie with Nicole Kidman who is still not bad to look at.  I liked it pretty well, but the last 30 seconds don't fit in with the rest of the movie at all!  I dont know what they were thinking there.

Watched Children of Men this weekend. Not as good as I thought it would be but it was good. Maddisen thought that the ending was "dumb".

Watched "Sunshine" starring Cillian Murphy and directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later)

I enjoyed this sci-fi flick as it tried tos tay pretty close to factual science, but it asked for a bit too much suspension of reality towards the end. Fantastic looking effects though.

P.S. I started renting movies from the Redbox on my route to/from work, for $1/night it's a pretty good deal. You can check whats available at any specific Redbox online & reserve it using a credit card, so you know if the movie you want is there. Cheap & for me at least, convienent.

They don't have much in the way of locations in the Chicago area. 3 locations around Oak Brook was all that I could find.

I didn't want to spend money on seeing it in a theater but plan to rent it.  Similar reaction.  Speaking of similar- I had a similar reaction to Children of Men. I liked it but not nearly as much as I thought I would.  Its a very cool idea but played out like a typical adventure/chase movie with a thinly veiled virgin birth.

I bought it because I had wanted to see it in the theater.  I really liked it, but I think many probably won't.  About 75% of the movie is acted through Beatles songs, and the rest of the 25% is spoken.  There are some really strange parts too, including the part with Bono and the part right after that.  Overall, I would say if you like the Beatles, see it, worst thing is you can enjoy the music for 2 hours and 15 min.

Blue Thunder...Great flick, very dated, though.  Roy Scheider wise-cracks through the whole thing.  My favorite (also very dated) exchange was:

Lymangood (Daniel Stern): All those people. What do you suppose they're all doing down there?
Frank Murphy (Roy Scheider): Well, according to the latest statistics, about 1 million, 775 thousand of them are... getting it on!
Lymangood: That many, eh!
Frank Murphy: The rest are waiting for 'Laverne and Shirley'!

Breach.  Pretty good.

I found this one pretty damn slow & no real suspense except when Ryan Phillipe was going to get caught going through his boss' stuff. Too much emphasis on Robert Hansen's Christianity. Couldn't even watch all of it. Ordered a pizza & watched Big Trouble in Little China instead.

Saw Mr Brooks on DVD on Friday. Thought it was pretty good & Kevin Costner played a double life serial killer well.

Saw There Will be Blood on Saturday, although the first choice was to go see No Country for Old Men. Thought the cinematography was great, the story good, but left the theatre feeling perplexed.

While I was watching it, I was basically entertained.  It kept me interested.  After it ended I realized that I had been rooting for the psycho killer.  Once I realized that, I was kind-of disturbed.

Saw "Futurama : Bender's Big Score" this weekend. If you like the series, this will provide some laughs, but I was really hoping for more Bender action. Overall I would skip the $1 rental if I could go back in time.

Went to see I am Legend on Saturday. Pretty good movie. Not a chick flick that is for sure. Besides the ending I liked the movie.

I finally saw this tonight after waiting to see "The Omega Man" first. Definetly much better than Omega Man, I agree with Bret that the ending coulda been different. For $4 at the Tivoli I'm not complaining though.

Saw Lions for Lambs last Sunday. I understand now why I never heard anything about this film after I saw a preview for it last fall. I expected more out of a film from Robert Redford... To his merit he did a good job acting. Meryl Streep seemed really weak, maybe that was the point. Tom Cruise was... well, Tom Cruise.

Iron Man is a great summer movie.  Robert Downey Jr. wasn't the first choice to play Stark, but I can't imagine anyone else in the role. Lots of action and comedy, a great start to summer films.

Also saw a movie on DVD called The Savages. It is about a brother and sister dealing with their aging father.  A very good movie, but I would only recommend it to about 5 people who actively post on this board.

There was a preview for the new M Night film with Mark Wahlberg.  He needs to come up with something new and different. Fooling people for the sake of fooling people gets old after a while.
