i've got a few wrigley field questions--

here at camden yards we have what is called a "scalp free zone" where people can go to buy/sell tickets at face value or less.  O's tix have been way too abundant lately for obvious reasons (unless the bosox or the great satan are visiting).  i never pay more than 2 for 1, and more often than not get great seats for a round or two of beer (often times 2 people will have 4 tix and you wind up sitting with them).  the best seats are often unavailable online because they are bought up by season ticket holders/businesses.  if someone were coming from out-of-town and wanted good tix to an O's game, this is where i would send them.

does wrigley have something like this?

my girlfriend and i are planning to go to the 7/18 game vs. the asstros.  if no scalp free zone, what's my best value of these available seats (from the cub's website)?

thanks for your advice

$40.00     Upper Deck Box Outfield

$32.00     Terrace Reserved Infield

$28.00     Terrace Reserved Outfield

$18.00     Upper Deck Reserved Infield

$17.00     Upper Deck Reserved Outfield

I don't know of any sections like this, but I do know that there is an official reseller of Cubs tix, that site is at http://replay.tickets.com/buy/DoublePlay?orgid=22347&agency=CUBM_MYTIXX, but from looking at it of course people want insane amounts of money.  Sickens me that some of them are trying to get quadruple.

It's official. I'm joining the in-laws and picking up a Pujols jersey today. I'm even going to get a matching Cardinals sticker to match the one my wife has on her car.

Prior with shoulder problem. D Lee hurting his shoulder at the WBC. I can't take another year of this.

Dan will be on here in a minute to fire away at Dusty.

Dusty is taking the brunt of all this but I didn't expect anything less from the Cubs this year. He has no talent to work with. They continue to bank on Wood & Prior. Z is just a head case and is not a #1 guy. Maddux is dropping drastically down to earth and will be an under .500 pitcher. We got some decent starts out of other guys but you can't count on them. Don't get me wrong, I don't want Dusty to stay. They need to clean house & get rid of everyone involved with this organization. The start of the season was very misleading. It was over the minute Lee went down. It's back to earth now. We'll be battling for the bottom of the divison. Our outfield is one of the worst in the majors. Nice siging of Jones & getting rid of Burnitz. Matt Murton? Come on, how could you count on this guy going into the season? I still think Juan Pierre can be a good lead off man on a decent team but when surrounded by shit, you start to become shit. Aram is sucking it up as the go to guy without Lee in the lineup. Cedeno? How about Furcal? Had we signed him Lee would still be playing right now. What a joke!

I just noticed this post Brett.

I've already gone over this with you.  Is Dusty necessarily a main reason that we suck?  hell no.  BUT, we have had one of the highest payrolls over the last 4 years under Dusty and we are paying him top dollar.  Why not hire any stroke off the street and pay him an average manager's salary?  Lord knows we'd get just as good results.  Dusty lets Zambrano get out of control time after time.   He never visits the mound until our starters have completely blown up even when its obvious they are getting frazzled out there (see prior in game 6 in '03).  Isnt' he supposed to get the most out of our talent?  Pierre has been a great leadoff guy for several years now, suddenly under Dusty he is a single A caliber player.  Patterson?  Kelton?  Bobby Hill?  oh did I mention that Baker is responsible for blowing out Wood and Prior's arms in 2003 (they were 1 and 2 in pitches thrown that year in the majors).  We could also review the Wendell Kim situation which somehow lasted for 2 years as well.  Its a joke.  Dusty Baker is a POS who should be dragged through the streets like the dog that he is.  Thats pretty much how I feel about that.  Oh, also he is partly responsible for Steve Stone leaving, which doesn't make watching the games any more fun.

does wrigley have something like this?

Kind of... The tribune co. scalps its own tickets to fans at 2-3 times the face value through a front "ticket broker" company.
That kid is back on the escalator!!!

didnt they get in some big trouble for that after the 2001 season?  Wasn't there a limit put on how far they could mark it up?

side note - the guy that Bartman that caught the would be second to last out in the 2001 game had a seat that was scapled by a side company of the tribune company, a little taste of their own medicine.

bartman is our hero  !!!

also the shortstop that booted an inning ending double play was a Cub
so was a young pitcher named Prior who lost his cool on the mound
also alou kind of lost it out in left  (note -  he was also a Cub player)

so the common thread here is that the bartman gets the blame/CREDIT but who is at fault -  Cub players

the game is played on the field not in the stands

wasnt there a world series highlight of Uribe going into the stands to get a ball in Houston
you would have thought those fans would have gone for the ball but

the sox have learned from the cubs on the tix thing

you can go to chisox.com and go to ticket exchange

the tix are season tix holders who can sell the tix thru the sox for a nominal fee

like i said the sox saw what the cubs could get away with and copied them

When I was a kid we would get the cheapest non-bleacher seats available, and then a few innings into the game we would move down into an empty box.  But now, maybe they sell out with a crappy team; I don't know.

From the upper deck it used to be that you could not see into the near corner of the outfield.  If Terrace = what they used to call Grandstand, you will have one or two posts obstructing part of your view but you will learn to look around it and after awhile it won't be a big deal.

Last time I went to a game was in '84.  I was studying for the bar exam.  Both my parents went to something out of town so I took a day off and Jon and I went to the game.  We probably rode our bikes to the train station, but maybe Jon remembers.

The Cubs may suck, but I still root (?) for them. Don't ask me why, but it's probably because I'm not south side trash.

Yup, keep rolling that footage to remind yourself why the Cubs are a lousy team with a lousy organization.  The object of a baseball game is to win  the game; to score more runs.  The object is not to win some emotional battle.  Barrett was frustrated because his team was getting whomped and because his counterpart, Pierzynski, was just plain smarter and tougher than he was.  A pro would get a hit the next time up.  Barrett chose the bush league path and got his "hit" right away.  I felt bad for this team when the got rocked by injuries.  But watching them cry, drop balls, and find new ways to lose is pathetic.  This is one of the worst teams I have seen in a while. As far as I am concerned, let them lie in their own waste.

Compare a professional baseball team run by baseball professionals.  Their manager can't seem to keep his mouth shut.  But neither he nor his team ever lose focus on the game.  Its not about winning a battle with a columnist or anybody else except THE OTHER TEAM.  In past years one of the teams has been good and the other bad.  This year the difference is more pronounced than usual because its more than wins and loses.  Its the entire organization.   And I'm not south side trash either.  I am north suburban trash.  For some reason I always liked the south side team better. I used to like both teams but I really can't stand the north side one now.  I hope they change.  Its an embarrassment to the city and to the club's long time fans.
