...so if I park in the lot by Parkside #1 this Saturday, how likely is it that I'll get ticketed?

The scores are still missing from the page for Joliet, incidentally.
thanks,
Damon

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

I hope to be there between 10 & 11 if the weather's not bad, so look me up

damon, you'd better practice; no resting on your laurels!  just think, when I'm a grandmaster, you'll be a legend!  ha!  :)

I've never rested on anyone named Laurel. Although I wanted to once...

But seriously folks...

Also, scores for West Park are not updated yet.

Yeah, thats cuz nobody's given them to jay or I yet.

Jay was there, he doesn't have the scores?

Damon,

Read your (some-what biased) review of the course.  ;)  It has made me go from being suspect of the course to looking forward to playing it!  I have never had the pleasure of playing down that way, sounds like a fun (but challenging) course.  Now I have something to get an idea of the course rather than walking into it blind.  Thanks for doing this, see you on the 12th!

Kyle and I are planning on attending, too.

JOsh will be just back from his honeymoon (Congratulations again, JOsh!) and while he did say he wants to go, his attendance will mostly be determined by the "ball and chain".  ;)

ochreogre

Yeah, the weather turned out spectacular for the Safari round at Token Creek.  That truly is a wonderful course, I'm really looking forward to playing it again.  Then playing a crazy up-down rolling terrain course like Elver really made the trip worth while.  Despite the fact that not everyone had a great score, I think we all had a good time.  I know I did!

How flat is the course in Rockford?

Does anyone have any information on the course in Rockford?  All the links I have seen for it are broken (including PDGA link).  I was hoping to get some information on the course before the event.

Thanks!

From Week 4 Josh Hurth and Kyle Scuglik tied for 4th place.

Jay, I had sent you a message about this.  Wasn't sure if you had gotten it or not, but I saw that the standings had not been updated.  Just curious as to whether or not you got the message.

ochreogre

Right now I am still planning on going.  Forecast says sunny and 80.  Sounds like a nice day to play!  Josh and I discussed car pooling, so we may go together.

Longs from the longs, shorts where there isn't a red.

'Splain this whole thing again, slowly, and use small words so all of us (mostly me) understands, please.   The way I am understanding it is this:

We are playing all 24 holes for the Safari, and the holes that have long positions will be played from the longs.  Holes that do not have long/alt tees (red) will be played normally (white).  Yes?

Looking forward to this!

ochreogre

My thoughts are:

If there is even a slight chance for a tie by year-end, the TD for the Safari will be well aware of it and will make sure the other participants know it, too, so they will be able to make an informed decision.  I personally wasn't really planning on playing in Crystal Lake in Dec., but if I needed to for a win, I will.

I like three of Damon's ideas:

1) Total strokes for all 'common' rounds.

2) Lowest single-round score for all 'common' rounds.

3) Throw out single best/single worst finish of 'best 7'; if still tied, most # 10s, most 9s, etc.

The caveat to the first two would be the scores should be based on play at equal-holed courses.  The scores at 24-hole Anna Page Park in Rockford shouldn't be compared to the scores at 18-hole Parkside in Kenosha for obvious reasons (for those of you that missed them, the reason is one park has 6 more holes than the other...).  I say this because should it come down to Jay and I in a tie somewhere other than 1st (at which point I will repeatedly strike him with a big pointy stick until he goes away) it doesn't seem fair to compare my score at a 24 hole course (which I played badly) to his score at an 18 hole course.  Well, it seems unfair to me, he'll probably giggle like a school girl as he adds those extra 18 strokes to my score...   :)  Anyway, certainly a lot of stuff to think about!

ochreogre

And while we are on the topic, what tees are we playing at Parkside on Saturday the 13th?  Lower plays short, Upper plays long, or a mix for both?

Something like 10 baskets were recently moved (like, three days ago) to alternate positions, so the course is more challenging now (especially holes 11 & 16).

[drift] I was hoping to play the longs this weekend to try them out, but I might have to join Brett and the gang at Bevier Saturday.  Sounds like fun! [/drift]

I'm sorry if this was already decided and this is a double post, I read back a little bit but didn't see anything that was decided about this.

ochreogre

Stupid Back Button.  If someone would be so kind as to remove the double post, I'd appreciate it.

QuoteDamon (09-03-2003 02:12 p.m.):

Speaking of Kenosha (I wasn't, but you did), when are they moving the baskets to a 'normal' position?

Ask and ye shall receive!  Looks like everything except hole 18 was moved back to a more 'normal' setting.  Except 11 & 16, which some masochist moved into the long positions.  :)

ochreogre

QuoteExcept 11 & 16, which some masochist moved into the long positions.  :)

11 is something like a 300' dog-leg left tunnel shot, and 16 is something like a 300' dog-leg right tunnel shot.

I hope Shawn knows I'm kidding and doesn't blast me for being a noodle-arm.  :)

They really aren't bad, and are actually quite fun.  I just like to whine about it because they used to be easy-duece-holes and now are "please just let me make par" holes.  :D

I think you mean Joliet... Rockford only *seemed* like it was a 24-hole course... ;)

Hey, as long as someone knew what I was talking about.  Rockford was only 18?  Good grief that was a long day.

ochreogre

Thanks Jay!

*note to self*  Don't forget to pack your 400'+ discs for September 13th...

Which reminds me, I need to do a search on Ebay for 400'+ arms...

ochreogre

Right now parking is a mess because school just started.  This weekend will probably be busy, there is an alumni art show on the 7th (I understand our very own Kyle will have some stuff in it).  Not sure if anything is going on for the weekend of the 13th, but there is plenty of parking across the street and then a short walk back to hole 1, so it shouldn't be bad.
