All club members, at least those that go to meetings and vote, have a say in how cub events are run. Things are working like they should. Thanks for verifying that.

hey hey what do ya know DR DYE is online!!!!

It is good to be sitting here in front of my own pc and typing this message, from my OWN apartment.  Instead of having to go upstairs, just to be informed of what the hell is going on.

Anyway, it sucks that this topic has to be my first post.  But here is my opinion.

I too think that there are pros and cons to both ways of doing it.  To be honest I am kinda torn about the whole thing.  I got a pen and paper and tried to do the math, but after doing that, I am still unsure.  I think that Jim is right in saying that it puts people at a disadvantge by changing the rules now.  Because up until a few days ago, I would of never know this was an issue.  But I still think maybe we should rethink it.

Now, I dont remember discussing "points" verse "score" method of determining the winner.  But I am prone to forget things(hehe).  And I dont remember having a problem with the way things were scored last safari series.  Other than the fact that I didnt win, but that was not the things were scored that caused me to lose.  I just am up against tough competition.  I think no matter how we score it, I know where I will stand for the most part.  Like Jim said, about himself.

Anyway, I am not certain about what I think, but I think that if we did it based on points rather than score, I would stand a better chance.  I lean in that direction, but there are good arguments on both sides.  And it is hard to choose.  So that is the way I lean.  I think if we are going to change it we have to do it NOW!!!

So there are my thoughts.  Good to be registered and online posting.  If anyone has discs that need to be DR DYED just let me know.

drdye

Count me in.  Guess I will have to pay my dues the same day so I am charged for only members fee.  How much are club dues again???

Hole 7 huh Jim?  A hard one huh, maybe for us rightys.

Yeah I think that the points system will work just fine.  And I am glad all is setteled.  See you on Sat. 1pm.

drdye

DAMN ITS COLD OUT THERE!!!!!!!

Still think we will get 12?  I guess we will weed out all the whimps, with weather like this.

drdye

I intended on calling on Sunday the 4th.  I figured if they are putting the pins in, they will be doing it the first weekend of the month.  Plus, Mirth will be in that neighborhood that weekend, before we get up there.  He said he was planning on playing a round there, so that would be our definate conformation.

drdye

I just got off the phone with Larry Ast.   THE PINS ARE IN!!!!!!!!!

No need to reschedule!!!!

I agree with not rescheduling, it has been made for a reason.  It is unfortunate that some will not be able to attend, but there are many more months, and course's left to play this year.

I for one will be there!!!  I have already made arrangements to get off work early enough to play.  I think the only reason we should reschedule, is if there is a major downpour with huge lightning blots coming from the sky.

drdye

I am so excited to play my favorite course.  Every morning, I wake up, I think to myself, is is Saturday?  Nope, damn, one more day.

I CANT WAIT ANY LONGER!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!

drdye

drdye

Brett is there still room for one more in your truck?

Looks like I am still looking for a ride.

Sorry asking about it the last min.

drdye

Cool thanks Brett!!!

What time should I expect you???  My girlfriend has to work at 9:00am, so she can drop me off before then.  At the PDQ just about a mile in on the HWY 50 exit.  Its on the north side of the road.  Otherwise, you can pick me up at my home, but that is a little more out of the way.  I will email you my phone # right now, so if you want to pick me up at home or make other arrangments you can call.  I tried looking for your #, but couldnt find it anywhere.  Thanks.

First off, it's good to be here. You've got a great group here and I've had a ball (and more than a little luck - ask Brett, Jay and Jeff about my bank shot on #6 Sunday...) playing with y'all so far.

I agree w/ Mirth that the Safari schedule should be left alone for consistency and one-shot tourneys like Widdershins should be moved where there's a conflict w/ a 'bigger' event.

There's some confusion between some events on the WI site vs PDGA though. I'd guess that WI is more accurate, but can anyone clarify:

Rumbletown Ams - WI says July 26, WI says Aug 16. It was in July last yr, but I think it was Aug in 2001. WI also says Aug 16 is WI Overalls...

Pickle Open - WI says June 21, PDGA May 3. It's always been May as far as I remember (I've always gone to World's Biggest in Joliet that wknd but would love to play Sheboygan this year - I'm up there a lot in the summer anyhow - and certainly would plan on it if it's in June)

Mad City ams - I'm assuming that's one day - anyone know if it's only one course, and if so, which one?

Hope to make it this Sunday but I've got tickets for a concert at 3 pm in the Loop so haven't decided yet.

thanks,

Damon

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

QuoteJim (02-04-2003 09:41 a.m.):

I'll be leaving from Bevier at 11:00am. Yes, Shawn, same course I think. My small car can't hold much, but can fit three comfortably w/o baskets.

Hey Jim, did you hear anything from Gary? Looks like I caused a panic about the (possibly) missing basket, sorry....}]

Just kidding about bringing baskets, who acually wants to carry their basket for a missing hole.  Don't you think we can just safari a 18th hole.

Damon, damn, checked out your site.  You are one of the best drummers I have heard, could not open any of the music from you previous albums.  Wanted to hear some sounds from the vibes.

thanks. I can confidently say that I'm a much better musician than a disc golfer ;).

I checked a couple of sound samples and they seem OK to me. Send me a private email (damonshort@compuserve.com) where you're having a problem and I'll look into it

WCP for Channahon is 46 if anyone else was interested.  Still waiting for an answer to what pads we are playing.  I think upper pool should play longs pads if conditions are good.  From what I read it is only an extra 591 feet.

...and a lot of that is on #9 (500 something vs. 320 something for am...)

...limestone tees, incidentally. Not sure all the pro tees are even that.

I think we should all play from the same tees. Longs are fine.

can we vote when we get there? I don't wanna play long tees :'(

...but I will ;)

I forgot what the tiebreaker is for a Safari event, searched around but couldn't find it.

Since #1 at Channahon is a real wind tunnel (should especially be this Saturday), I suppose that could be a reasonable CTP; since (if?) there's time I think a playoff is better, but hasn't this already been resolved?

And I don't want to be perceived as a rules nazi, but there's a potential problem here re: bagtag challenges. We've already established that ties go to the better tag, and since there are likely to be challenges across cards and across *divisions*, any tiebreaker in a Safari or other organized event should be irrelevant as far as tag challenges are concerned. (for example, tied scores on Sat. across divisions wouldn't be played off anyhow)

I just see some potential controversy on this down the road and figured we should clear it up beforehand.

Not all the holes at Channahon have long tees, and I'm not sure where all of them are myself (if there's snow on the ground, good luck...). The way the course is laid out, the longer tees don't always favor bigger arms, and while I'd still rather play shorter, I'll do whatever the majority wants to vote for.

QuoteJon Brakel (03-09-2003 12:24 a.m.):

Sean Comstock just ended his glorious career in lower by winning his third lower event with a 60.  This also rockets him to first place in upper.  Welcome to the big league Sean!  I'm not sure who else plays lower but I'm sure they are all happy for you!

... but Shawn was already playing upper yesterday. I think Josh had the best score of the lower pool.

and yes, we're delighted ;)

Anyone have any detailed info on Madison Meadows in Lombard? I was thiking of making course specific score cards for the safari events and its our next stop.

I'm going out there Saturday; I'll try to jot down the 'yardage' ('footage'?)

there's info online in a couple of places but I don't think it has the changed holes updated.

Here's the info I gathered today along with a biased review of the course. The distances are approximate, even the posted ones on the course aren't always accurate.

Put up flyers at Madison Meadows and Lombard Commons.
