Jon left it all on the course today and went to bed early so I calculated player ratings using the PDGA template.

I'll let Jon post the official ratings when he cuts and pastes the worksheet into something postable.

My 60 was a played at 955 relative to the rated players and how they shot in that weather.  In the summer on a dry, still day a 60 might be crappy but today it was damn fine.

You can calculate your approximate rating off mine by adding or subtracting 9 rating points per stroke.  So a 61 would be a 946, a 64 would be a 919 and a 67 would be a 892.  This method gets you within a point or two of the actual spreadsheet numbers.

Rob Schoenhoft won in upper with a 57, I took second with a 60 and Shawn Fallon got third with a 61.

Sean Comstock just ended his glorious career in lower by winning his third lower event with a 60.  This also rockets him to first place in upper.  Welcome to the big league Sean!  I'm not sure who else plays lower but I'm sure they are all happy for you!

Like my disc golf mentor, Mark Ellis, I really enjoy playing in extreme weather.  Today was awesome!  I've had icicles in my mustache before but I've never had my beard entirely crust over.

I'll see some of you at league tomorrow and the rest at the next Safari.

Bruce and I went to Bevier today and he put on waders and got my sweet Dr Dyed(R) disc out of the water off hole 9. WOOOHOOOOO!!!

Then Bruce and I went to Madison Meadows and played a round. I shot 2 over and Bruce shot 1 down. Bruce thinks 3 down will win tomorrow. We both enjoyed the course and look forward to playing tomorrow.

I think we should keep the schedule the same. This is the reason for having a schedule. Some people have already made plans based on the posted schedule.

The plan that we talked about at the last meeting was that if Token Creek was still closed, we'd swap with Streamwood. We decided that that decision could wait until the Monday before the event. If we have phone numbers for people, I'll volunteer to call everyone who has attended 2 or more safari dates and let them know if the location changes.

At this point I'm 50/50 for making it to this week's safari (see my post under leagues). But I REALLY want to, so I'll be there if I possibly can be.

I'm planning on being there. What's the bathroom situation at that course?

Bruce and I have played that course, but Bruce probably doesn't remember. We had fun. I thought it was a nice course and would recommend playing it. We did not play in a tourney so I don't know about the people who run them or how they run them.

I'll go out there with you Bruce, if you go.

And I wasn't taking away from your not liking it. Your opinion is valid. : )  I just thought I'd post that I had a different experience. When Bruce and I played the course the temperature was in the mid 70's. I usually don't like a course as much when its 95 degrees out either.

we both collected the birdies and the stinging weed was the same day but at Rockford.

Steering this thread back on topic....

Results & standings as of Token Creek have been posted.

http://discontinuum.org/Events/safari2003/results-safari-total.html

I have gotten the following points at the first 5 safari events: 6, 8, 4, 5, 9

Added up, I get 32 points. I'm not sure where the 27 points came from.

I think Becky is going to play on Saturday also.

I played it about 10 years ago, but I've heard that it has been redesigned since then. I also only remember a couple of holes from the 2 rounds I played then.

Jay,

I'll post the results here in a few minutes. If you need me to run any of the Safari events, just let me know. I plan on being at all of them, except maybe the August one if I need that day to do prep work for the IO.

At some point Damon bumps up out of the lower pool and takes his points with him.  Is it after four wins?

There doesn't seem to be a bump up rule. We discussed bumping Shawn C. because he was clearly in the wrong division, but we didn't have to because he bumped himself up. Damon, on the other hand is competitive in the lower division and I don't think there is a significant reason to bump him up.

There is no way that I would start attending a series where I had to attend at least 7 events for overalls, without knowing when they were when I signed up.

It would seem like implementing a new rule, but I have a vested interest in seeing Damon stay lower also. So, I'll suggest that Jay as the Safari Director make the final say.

The Brakels are offering to host a post safari/pre second round cook out for all those interested. I was thinking after we play the safari at Vollrath, we can see how many people are interested and pick up supplies on our way to the other course. Then I'll set up my portable grill at the other course. That is assuming that most people want to play the other course while we're all up there. If we're going with tube steaks, we'll buy. If we want something fancier, we'll pass the hat.

I'll bring my portable grill, if for no other reason than its new and I need excuses to use it! I couldn't think of the name (Manitowac) when I was posting and didn't feel like going to the PDGA page to look it up.

On the Safari Ace Pool. I keep forgetting to look in my folder and see what its up to, but I think its around $40. I'll let everyone know for sure on Saturday.
