The hut burnt down in late January or early February.  An improperly extinguished cigarette is believed to have been the culprit but who knows.   The original builders of the hut went out and started rebuilding about a month ago.  It's a work in progress.  Nothing like the old hut yet... That thing was pretty awesome

So is the new hut going to have a strict no smoking policy as a result?  :D

No other work or improvements will be done until we see what happens with the park.

They got a grant from the state. The creek from the spillway leadng to Bonnie Brook Golf Course is going to have major work done.  the work is beng down to prevent floodng. It sounds like alll the woods down the creek line are going to be cleared. The soccer field is now closed for good. It might become a retention pond.

Major bummer.. Those tree holes added some good difficulty and versatility to the course.  So it's JUST the wooded area along the creek which affect holes 16, 17, and 18 or are did he specifiy the entire wooded area.

Just the woods on 15/16/17/18.

He did say they'd like to clear the underbrush in the entire wooded secton.  I don't think that s gong to happen but it might. Another possible bummer.

If they make the old soccer field into a retention pond, I wonder if they would consider making it a shape that could be used as part of a disc golf hole or two?

More vegetative mass in the riparian zone equals less flooding. Should they decide they need to straighten and line the creek as well, someone needs to give them a good swift kick for pissing away tax dollars.

Found an alternate tee stone for "hole 16 "at bevier.  It was layin at the end of the trail between 13 to 14.  Not sure if it wil still be there..    Anyone know where it supposed to go. And on that note, is there a map in existence with the alternate locations for the course?  Ive found a few but none for 7, 8, 9.

The picture doesnt show that the stone was completely plucked from the ground and laying in the middle of the path.  But  after checking out your maps, It appears to be pretty close to its home.  Maybe the PD workers unearthed it when doing some brush clearing along the path a couple days ago.

Thanks for the map and text of descriptions!

Each of the 9 with cement pads had 2 alt tees.

Old hole 7 (now 14) had 1 further back, close to the walking path.  There was also a shorter one in the woods that would be unplayable now as the brush has grown in so much thicker than it used to be.

Old hole 8 had 1 shorter to the right in the woods, making it an anhyzer putter shot.  There was also one back and to the left, on the pond side of the walking path making it a hyzer shot.

Old hole 9 had 1 deep, between 8's bucket and 9's cement pad.  The shorter one was just a little in front of the cement pad and in the woods on the left.  Again the schule is so think there now you wouldn't be able to throw it.

The longer tees on 1 and 2 would probably be the most interesting with the way the course is now.  2 had one straight back from the cement pad and the other was back and to the left making you throw safe to the right of the tennis courts or a big annie over the tennis courts.  It was a fun shot.

The alternate days bring back memories. I was showing Steven and Stank the alternate to hole #5. It's not too far from the basket to #4. You used to be able to throw down the alley to the basket. The trees have gotten so big there is no route to the basket. It's pretty amazing how big some of the trees have gotten at Bevier.

The Thunderdome is officially no more.

The park district tore it down late last week sighting excessive littering as the reason.  The fort was cool and added some uniqueness to the course (not much but some) and was a nice break point on a casual round. But ya can't blame the Waukegan Park District for getting rid of it.  The place was a nest for Milwaukee's Best and Boxer beer garbage, blunt wrappers and condom wrappers (people have been walked in on.. seriously.)

Sad to see it go, but thats what happens.  As for the excessive littereing, majority of the cans come from a few adult individuals who don't seem to care.  A damn shame.

Also noted, The park district removed a large tree infront of the basket on Hole 2, should make the hole easier.  And they removed a tree off the Tee box of 13 as well as the wooden table for putting your bags on.

The club can provide all the needed paint, flag, & tape supplies. We just need to find a date that we can get 10 to 20 people out there. With a good turnout it shouldn't take more than a few hours.
