MOKENA

this is the way to do it

27 holes (baskets)

not sure of how many tees  but most holes have alternate tees

3 port a potties ( i think) at least 2
1by 1
1by 18
1 by 11 long T or 13 basket whichever u prefer

at the T in July  they had a  trailer with drinks and hot dogs and candy
also had the concession stand open for lunch
they sell disc s at the park dis  office

oh yeah 2 practice baskets which will be great once the new parking lot
gets put in

it appears that disc golf in MOKENA has the FULL support of the park dis

its not the # of baskets in the ground that really matters
its the quality of the course

think ft wayne  swinney park   it was 12 spider baskets
i always thought it had a good mix of holes
Mokena is nice. It would still be nice to have a par 4 course in the area. I wonder why they decided to put 27 baskets on that course rather than design a higher par 18 basket course?

i agree  there are a couple of tight holes

and i still sometimes get turned around

but since it is now the closest course to me

im biased

i gotta concur.  mokena has the potential to be an absolute world class 18-hole course.  it is still a good 27-holer, which beats a mediocre 18 or 9 hole course anyday.  but i sorta wince when i think of what some superior course designers could have accomplished with the raw materials and support available at mokena.  please don't misconstrue this as a knock on the course; as i said, it is a good course.  and the hard work and dedication shown there makes it obvious how much those folks love the game.  i'll make the 75 minute drive there as often as i can.
have the good fun.

At some point, in the near future, can we all agree to steer the conversation in this thread back towards the subject? ;)

This cracked Dan & I up tonight. Across the road from #3 is a practice basket. I have no idea why it is there. I would be like putting a practice basket near hole #9 at Fairfield.

Just noticed that?    :P

Whatever, I'm sure we could make up a really cool alternate to that hole or something..

Dan Michler

thats true.  we should integrate that hole into the course and make it 10 holes.  nobody will practice putting way out there.

There is just 1 practice basket. It may be near #1 basket but I thought it was farther down. Either way, it's in a goofy place.

There have been new tees installed.

The tee for new #1 is on the south side of the road on the gravel path about 15 feet from the road. If you walk on the path south from baslet #7, it is easy to find. It plays to the practic basket on the right side of the path. It is probably 450+ feet. JJust ignore the basket that says #1 on it.

New #2 is about 50 feet back of the gravel pile. It is a much tighter/straighter shot than the previous tee.

#3 is directly behind the gravel pile.

#4 has been moved to the left of the gravel pile. It is in the grass just off the path.

#5, 6, 7, are directly behind the gravel piles.

#8 & #9 are directly to the left of the gravel piles.

So by new tees you mean alternates that you've come up with and not tees officially recognized by the park dept, right?

We saw some other players playing them so we decided to give it a try. I like the new tees much better. They are flat & no gravel. New hole #1 is awesome! #2 & 4 play much differently as well. I wonder if they are modifying the course?

I gave them a try too and found them to be really cool.  I would suggest that anybody who plays this course should give them a try.  It really makes the course challenging AND solves the problem of dangerous gravel pit tees.  New #1 is a really fun hole.  It will really work your game.

Interesting. I know Brownie was telling me how he advised Ron to try out a few different configs before making the layout permanent. Maybe thats what they're doing.

I'm excited to get out there now and try it out. A couple of the tees sound similar to the alternates we threw during that night round...

inteeeeeresting..

sounds like i need to get out there

I noticed flags for Hole 6 today too.  they are to the left as your walking from 5's basket to the old 6 tee.  WOW!! that makes that hole alot better too.  With all the new tees, there are no real gimme deuces on the course and there are alot of bogeys out there.  Par is an excellent score on this course.

I'm really enjoying playing out there more than any other course in this area at this point.  It'll really work your game.  I suggest that all you guys should try these new tees, who knows maybe one day they will become permanent cement tees.  better yet, maybe 18 holes will get put in.
